Understanding Viral Warts and Treatments

Viral warts are benign skin growths caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infections. There are many types of warts that vary in appearance and location on the body. Common warts usually appear on the hands as rough, raised, gray-brown growths and can be treated with salicylic acid or cryotherapy. Plantar warts often occur on the pressure points of the feet and cause pain with walking; they may require prolonged treatment with salicylic acid or surgical removal to prevent scarring. Warts can be difficult to treat and often require multiple sessions before clearing.
