Poem on Leaving and Heartbreak

This poem is about saying goodbye to a relationship. The speaker has seen in their partner's eyes that they want to leave for some time. While the house has seen their laughter and fights, things are now different and they hardly see each other. The speaker knows they are in the way of their partner's heart and asks only one thing before their partner leaves - to take the speaker with them when they go.

WHEN YOU GO
Written by DTYarbrough

Well you don't have to tell me that you're leaving.

I've seen it in your eyes for some time now.
It's so sad that we've both stopped believing
we could ever make a go of it somehow.

This house has seen our laughter, our fights and soon thereafter,
our bedroom knew that love was living here.
We always seem to make up, never thought about a breakup,
but things are really different now, I fear.

You stay alone in your room, and I'm alone in my gloom,

and we hardly see each other much this way.
I know that we'll soon part, I'm in your way, not in your heart,
and this house is getting lonelier each day.

Well I won't even try to stop your leaving.

There's only one thing I need to know.
Before you pack your bags and end our grieving,
will you take me with you when you go?
