Isabelle Eberhardt's Life in Algeria

Isabelle Eberhardt was a Swiss writer who converted to Islam and lived in nomadic Arab societies in northern Algeria dressed as a man. She joined a Sufi order called the Qadiriyya who helped the poor and fought colonial injustices. In 1901 she was attacked with a saber in an apparent assassination attempt but later forgave her attacker and had him spared. She married an Algerian soldier and later died in a flash flood in 1904.
