About Skopelos
Skopelos is bigger than Skiathos and less commercialised but its many beauties attract many visitors and the
island is getting busier and touristier every year.
The northwest coast of Skopelos is the largest coast of the island, very exposed, with impressive cliffs rising
from the sea, creating a large bay. The south coast is calmer and has many idyllic coves with calm
crystalline waters, fine sand and pine trees descending at the sea level and shadowing the lovely beaches.
Most of the large sandy beaches of Skopelos are well-organised with sun beds, umbrellas and water sports
but many deserted beaches and coves can be found, with crystal-clear waters and pebbles.
The first antique settlement was called Peparithos and was built on the north-western bay of the island. This
settlement was build by the mythical Staphylos (as some believe) who was one of the four sons of the god
Dionysos and Ariadne.
Today, the capital of the island is in the east and is called Skopelos Town. It is also the main harbour of the
island, built amphitheatrically in the heart of a bay, full of white houses with tiled roofs. The second harbour
and main settlement is the picturesque village of Glossa located on the west coast.

Town
Location: On the southern side of the island
Description: Skopelos Town is the capital of the island. Spread around a lovely bay and surrounded by pine trees,
this village keeps its traditional charm and stays away from mass tourism.
Sightseeing: Folklore Museum, Monastery of Agia Varvara, Monastery of Evangelistria, Monastery of
Metamorfosi, Monastery of Taxiarches, Monastery of Timios Prodromos, Photographic Centre
Glosa
Location: 25 km north west of Skopelos Town
Description: Glossa is built amphitheatrically along a mountainside and it is surrounded by a pine forest. This is the
main port of the island.

Best Beaches in Skopelos
Panormos
Location: 12 km west of Skopelos Town
Description: Panormos is considered among the most beautiful beaches on Skopelos. It has sandy coast, sparkling
water and gives a great view to the sunset.
Stafilos
Location: 5 km south east of Skopelos Town
Description: Stafilos, on the southern side of Skopelos, is among the most popular and picturesque beaches on the
island. It is surrounded by high cliffs and the coast is organized.
Agnondas
Location: 8 km south of Skopelos Town
Description: This is a pebbled beach surrounded by a picturesque green ambience. Small fishing boats and yachts
moor in the port of Agnontas in summer.
Milia
Location: 13 km west of Skopelos Town
Description: This is a fine beach with white pebbles and crystal water. Part of this beach is organized with sunbeds
and umbrellas.
Hovolo
Location: 18 km west of Skopelos Town
Description: This is an amazing beach close to Elios. Surrounded by greenery, Hovolo has exotic water and a calm ambience.
Elios
Location: 19 km west of Skopelos Town
Description: Elios, or else Neo Klima, is a fine tourist resort surrounded by a dense pine forest. Small boats moor in
the port of Elios.
Glyfoneri
Location: 2 km north of Skopelos Town
Description: A nice beach surrounded by green hills, Glyfoneri is very close to Skopelos Town.

Church of Agios Ioannis Kastri
Location: Agios Ioannis
This is the church were scenes from Mammia Mia were filmed. It stands on top of a rock and gives amazing views of
the island.
Monastery of Timios Prodromos
Location: Town
The Monastery of Timios Prodromos is located 6 km east of Skopelos Town. Constructed in the 17th century, this
monastery is open to public. It hosts a small museum with holy icons, ecclesiastical relics and old public papers.
Monastery of Evangelistria
Location: Town
The Monastery of Panagia Evangelistria is located 3 km east of Skopelos Town, on the slopes of a mountainside.
Surrounded by lush greenery, this monastery was established in 1712 and gives a gorgeous view of the island.
