School Uniforms: Pros and Cons 1
BACKGROUND
According
to
the
current
statistics,
anti-school
uniforms are more comfortable to the idea of implementing
dress codes.
Dress codes can give students the opportunity
to have their own identity and stay comfortable without on
their
attire.
However,
pro-uniform
advocates
are
not
contented to this idea as students can have the opportunity
to violate school rules.

In addition,
students can wear attire that can lead to a bad impression
to school if they are outside the school campus (Hanson,
2015).
As time continuous to go on, it seems that the pros and
cons of school uniforms statistics remain indistinct.
The
pro and anti-uniform advocates are battling which among them
are
right.
Parents,
especially
moms
may
have
varied
opinions about the issue, but 95% of school teachers believe
that

of students (Hanson, 2015).
School Uniforms: Pros and Cons 2
Implementing a school uniform policy is difficult to do
especially since the Supreme Court decided back in 1969 that
the right to individual dress was protected under the First
Amendment (Roguski, 1997).

PROBLEM
Pros and cons of school uniforms
II.
OBJECTIVE
To deal most appropriately and efficiently with the
pros and cons of school uniform
III. AREAS OF CONSIDERATION
1. The pros and cons of school uniforms statistics are
deeply influenced by the arguments of schools and
parents in favor of children wearing school uniforms
and those who do not agree with the idea.
2. Advocates of school uniforms claim there are many
advantages
or
benefits
to
instituting
either
mandatory or non-mandatory/voluntary school uniform
policy.
3. The idea of implementing a school uniform policy
appears
to

intentions

students and provide a valuable education, but not
all
people
believe
so.
There
are
many
people
in
society, including students, parents, educators and

school officials, who have opposed the idea of a
school uniform policy.
4. The issue of implementing a uniform policy and its
acceptance is not based on size, but whether the

IV. ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION
1. Get the parents and the community involved from the
beginning
and
having
stable
school
board
when
considering the adoption of a school uniform policy.
Advantage
If the parents are supportive, then it will
encourage students to wear the uniforms on a daily
basis.
Major policy changes that directly affect all
students and parents cannot be considered when a
school board is unstable or dysfunctional (Cohn,
1996).
Disadvantage
It reduces the students responsibility in
making mature choices about what to wear.
2. The school district must determine whether to have a
mandatory
or
non-mandatory/voluntary
school
uniform
policy, and it must be conveyed to both the parents
and to the students.
Advantage
If
school
opts
for
non
mandatory/voluntary uniform policy, the students
have the right to choose whether they wear the

students in order for it not to violate the First
Amendment.
Disadvantage
There are many people in society, including
students, parents, educators and school officials,
who have opposed the idea of a school uniform
policy or agreed school uniform policy depending
on their own decision.
3. Implementing
uniform
policy
but
the
school
will
provide uniforms to those who cannot afford them.
Advantage
The students will accept the new policy.
Disadvantage
Not fair to those parents who pay for
school uniforms.
V.
RECOMMENDATION
1. It is recommended that alternative No. 1 be pursued,
for the parents and the community involved from the
beginning
and
having
stable
school
board
when
considering the adoption of a school uniform policy.
