Stock Specifications - Plates
High yield structural Plates API-2W grade 50
API-2W grade 50 high yield structural plates are intended for (but not limited to) use in fixed offshore structures, designed to
operate in the offshore sector.
Applicable codes and standards
API 2W, 2006 edition specifies high strength steel plates for offshore structures, produced by thermo-mechanical controlled
processing.
Grade
Grade 50 LS Z35
Structural
Minimum Yield (expressed in ksi)
API 2W steels are intended for
fabrication primarily by cold forming
and welding.
LS: Low Sulphur
Z35
Sulphur content is controlled.

25 < t 40 mm 345 - 483 MPa
40 < t 63 mm 345 - 483 MPa

80 < t 100 mm 345 - 483 MPa
Through thickness testing when
called for via option S4.
Min Tensile 358 MPa
(=80% of 448 MPa).
Heat analysis for Sulphur shall
be max 0,006% when specified
via option S5. TTP testing is not
mandatory. This should be
specified via option S4.
The primary use of these steels is in tubular joints, stiffened plate construction and other intersections where portions of the plate will be subject to tension in the
thickness direction. Supplementary requirement S4 provides for through-thickness testing of plates and specifies limits for acceptance. This steel offers enhanced
through thickness ductility and impact values verified at minus -40C.
