Foreword
This translation has been made based on the original Japanese Industrial Standard
established by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry through deliberations
at the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee according to the proposal for
establishment of Japanese Industrial Standard submitted by the Japan Iron and Steel
Federation (JISF) with the draft being attached, based on the provision of Article 12
Clause 1 of the Industrial Standardization Law.
This Standard has been established by dividing the contents of JIS G 3469: 2010.
This JIS document is protected by the Copyright Law.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some parts of this Standard may conflict
with a patent right, application for a patent after opening to the public or utility
model right. The relevant Minister and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee
are not responsible for identifying the patent right, application for a patent after
opening to the public or the utility model right.
JIS G 3477 series consists of the following 8 parts under the general title “Polyethylene
coated steel pipes”
Part 1: 3 layer extruded polyethylene coated steel pipes
Part 2: 2 layer extruded polyethylene coated steel pipes
Part 3: External polyethylene powder coated steel pipes

Polyethylene coated steel pipes—
Part 3: External polyethylene powder
coated steel pipes
Introduction
This Japanese Industrial Standard has been established by extracting the contents
related to coated steel pipes of PIF from JIS G 3469:2010 and making some techni-
cal modifications to them.
1 Scope
‘This Standard specifies the external polyethylene powder coated steel pipes (here-
after referred to as “coated steel pipes”) mainly used for underground ” services trans-
porting gas, oil, water. This Standard is generally applicable to straight pipes and
deformed pipes of outside diameters 21.7 mm (nominal diameter 15A or 4B) to
1625.6 mm (nominal diameter 1 600A or 64B). The coated steel pipes are usually used
at temperatures in the range of -40 °C to +60°C,
Note The “underground” referred to above includes the bottom of river, the bot-
tom of sea, ete.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this Standard, the terms and definitions given in JIS K 6900
and JIS Z 0103 and the following apply.
3.1 cathodic delamination
delamination of a coating from the steel surface occurring adjacent to defects on coat-
ing due to alkali, hydrogen, etc. generated by protection current, when electrolytic
protection is applied to the coated steel pipe and the detects on the coating surface serves
as a cathode
3.2 type test
test not performed upon every delivery, but performed at the time of initial manufac-
ture* and when the manufacturing condition having effects on performances is changed
