Steel Lubricated Plug Valves - Flanged and Welding End
Scope
1.1
This specification together with the Purchase Order covers the minimum
requirements for steel lubricated plug valves in nominal pipe size (NPS) 2 and
larger for ASME Classes 150 through 2500, and in sizes 1-13/16 inches and
larger for API maximum rated working pressures of 2000 through 5000 psi.
1.2
Plug valves covered by this specification shall be suitable for wet, sour liquid
and gaseous hydrocarbon services and suitable for a temperature range from 10C to 120C for ASME valves, and Temperature Rating U for API 6A valves.
1.3
Additional requirements for the following special services are covered under the
following appendix:
Appendix A: Low Temperature Service from -45C to -18C
Conflicts and Deviations
2.1
Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Consulting Services Department, of Saudi Aramco; Dhahran.
2.2
Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department, of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

Modifications to API STD 599, Metal Plug Valves Flanged, Threaded and
Welding Ends
The following paragraph numbers refer to API STD 599, Seventh Edition, January 2013,
which is part of this specification. The text in each paragraph below is an addition,
exception, modification, or deletion to API STD 599 as noted. Paragraph numbers not
appearing in API STD 599 are new paragraphs to be inserted in numerical order.

Design
5.1.1
(Addition) Valves manufactured to API ratings shall meet the applicable
requirements of API SPEC 6A PSL-2, PR-1, Material Class AA or BB as
specified, and Temperature Rating U, except as modified in this specification.
5.1.2
(Addition) Valves shall be qualified fire-safe to one of the following
standards: API SPEC 6FA or API STD 607 or EN ISO 10497.

5.1.3
(Addition) Unless otherwise specified, all lubricated taper plug valves must
be of the inverted plug Pressure Balanced Design in which the line
pressure is used to keep the plug in a balanced condition. Lubricated plug
valves shall have a bottom entry design.
5.1.4
(Addition) Sealing shall be accomplished using a lapped tapered metal plug
fitted to a lapped tapered metal body. The valve shall be a metal-to-metal
seated design.
5.1.5
(Addition) Unless specified otherwise, the valve pattern shall be in
accordance with Table 1 below. The port area of short pattern or venturi
valves shall be at least 45% and regular pattern valves shall be at least 60%
with reference to inside diameter of Appendix A, Table A-1 ASME B16.34.

5.2.2
(Modification) Face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions for ASME Class
valves shall be in accordance with API SPEC 6D, Table-3. Face-to-face and
end to end dimensions for valve sizes not specified in Table 3 shall be in
accordance with ASME B16.10. Face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions for
API rated valves shall be in accordance with API SPEC 6A. When Vendor's
standard dimensions do not meet this requirement, approval is required by the
Chairman of the Valves Standards Committee.
5.2.3
(Modification) Flanges shall be integral with the body.
5.2.4
(Addition) For dimensions of steel flanges larger than NPS 24, refer to
04-SAMSS-035.
5.4.6
(Addition) The plug of lubricated valve shall be furnished with anti friction
treatment.
5.7.1
(Addition) The Plug valve shall be capable of being opened and closed under
full differential line pressure.
5.7.8
(Addition) The operating mechanism shall be as defined in Table 2, unless a
power actuator has been specified:

5.7.9
(Addition) In all cases, a gear box shall be provided if the maximum
operating force to operate the valve exceeds a maximum of 360 Newtons at
full differential pressure. For power operation requirements, refer to
04-SAMSS-035.
Materials
6.2.1
(Modification) Body and bonnet shall be cast steel in accordance with
ASTM A216 Grade WCB or WCC, or forged steel in accordance with
ASTM A105.
6.2.3
(ADDITION) Trim shall be defined as the plug, stem and equalizer ring.
Purchaser shall specify the trim option for materials as defined in Table 3.

(Addition) All parts, welds and heat-affected zones of welds exposed to line
fluids shall meet the hardness and heat treatment requirements as specified in
NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. This includes materials under overlays, plating

or coatings. A component shall be heat treated following the application of an
overlay, or coating, if necessary, to bring the condition and properties of the
heat affected zone into compliance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
6.2.5
(Addition) When hardfacing is required it shall be Stellite 6 on the plug and
other suitable grade of Stellite or Inconel 625 on the body. The Vendor is
required to insure a hardness differential between contact surfaces to prevent
galling of materials.
6.2.6
When scraper trap isolation / Kicker service is specified, the body seat shall
be overlaid with Inconel 625, while the trim shall be made of minimum
SS F-51 (cast or forged) l.
6.7.1
(Addition) Stem sealing shall be achieved with packing as a primary seal and
O, V or Quad rings, if used, as a secondary seal.
6.8.1
(Modification)) Body-to-bonnet bolting material shall be in accordance with
ASTM A193-B7M/ASTM A194-2HM.

Additional requirements for valves for low temperature service from -45 to -18C:
1)
The valves shall meet the requirements of 04-SAMSS-003.
2)
The trim shall be stainless steel AISI Type 304 or 316 or higher grade.
