Radiographic Testing Quiz: Lesson 8

This document contains a 15 question quiz about radiographic testing (RT). The questions cover topics like the effects of kilovoltage on subject contrast, the relationship between intensity ratio and subject contrast, and how film type and exposure affect radiographic contrast. Multiple choice answers are provided for questions about calculating radiation levels on the opposite side of thickness plates penetrated by different radioactive sources.

RT LESSON 8

QUIZ
Kindly select A for TRUE & B for FALSE 1 to 13
1. The use of an excessively high kilovoltage can result in a very high subject contrast in the
radiographic film.
2. Film contrast and subject contrast both refer to density differences caused by changes
in thickness in the specimen being radiographed.
3. Subject contrast can be defined as a ratio of the intensities being transmitted through
two different sections of the specimen.
4. The best possible subject contrast is achieved by using the lowest kilovoltage that will
adequately penetrate the specimen.
5. As described in our lesson, an intensity ratio of 4 provides a better subject contrast than
an intensity ratio of 2.
6. The larger the difference between intensities of two adjacent sections of the same
specimen, the higher the subject contrast.
7. Regardless of the size and configuration of the specimen, it is always best to use the lowest
kilovoltage that will penetrate the thinnest section.
8. The type or speed of the X-ray film used has little-if any effect on the radiographic contrast
of the image.
9. The H & D Curve and the Film Characteristic Curve refer to the same type of chart
that plots density as it relates to film exposure.
10. If it is necessary to radiograph a specimen in a single shot, despite its wide range of
thicknesses the best procedure would be to use the lowest kilovoltage possible that would
still penetrate the thinnest section.

11. In the above diagrams, it is obvious that Film # 2 has the best radiographic contrast because
of the distance between D3 and D4.
12. Based on the H & D Curve shown above, it can be shown that Film # 1 will receive the
higher level of radiation and consequently be more dense.
13. Film # 1 above would have a great intensity ratio than would Film # 2.
Kindly select best possible answer for 14 to 15
14. If one side of CS plate of 100 mm thickness, radiation level is 200 mR/Hr, than after
radiation emitted by Ir-192 passing through the entire cross section, what will be the
radiation level on the other side of the plate ?
(A) 6.25 mR/Hr (B) 3.125 mR/Hr
(C) 1.563 mR/Hr
(D) 0.781 mR/Hr
