ADAPTATIONS (Exceptionality*)
The student who has difficulty focusing will be provided with copies of
Fundations Sound Cards, vocabulary words with the digraph highlighted, and visual aids
prior to the lesson. This student will be encouraged to use the cards to help sound out
unknown words or letter sounds, as well as formulate words. This student will have the
opportunity to draw a picture that correlates with the given digraph. The student will also
have strategic seating in the classroom close to the teacher in case they are in need of
additional support and refocusing throughout the lesson.
DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION
The teacher understands that all students do not learn the same way. Therefore, visual learners
will be supported by the pictures from the Fundation Cards and the pictures in the on the
worksheet that matches with each word that has the ch sound. Auditory learners will be
supported by the students producing the different words with ch sound. Kinesthetic learners
will be supported by the digraph puzzle sort game.
DEVELOPMENTAL PROCEDURES
The teacher will engage the students by holding up a Fundation Card and having the class as a
whole shout out the different sounds as a review. (What do you notice about each of these
sounds?, Can you think of any words that have th, sh, ch, wh , and ph?)
The teacher will review and teach the different digraphs from the previous day and introduce
ch. (What sound does ch make? What are some words you can think of that have the sound
sh)
The teacher will then have the students participate in a game, Digraph puzzle sort! in
partnerships where the students take turns sorting out the different cards and match the picture
Ch Digraph Puzzle Sort Activity
with the correct ch or sh sound. ( How can you tell what the word goes with the picture?,
how many SH and CH digraph puzzles did you make, and could you tell the different?)
The teacher will then have the students independently complete a trace and paste
worksheet on the different words that have ch and glueing the picture next to the word. ( How
can the picture help you understand the different words?, What are the different words you came
up with on your circle map?)
ASSESSMENT (Evaluation)
The teacher will evaluate the student's trace and paste worksheet.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
Following the lesson for homework the students will complete an Unscramble It! worksheet
for ch words .
