Subject:-Payment of Deamess Allowance to Central Govemment Employees - Revised rates
. effective from 1.7.1996. '
The undersigned is directed to refer to t.hisMinistry's Office Memorandum No. 1.(5)196-E.II(B 1
dated 20.3.1996 on the subject mentioned above and to say that the,President is pleased to
decide that the Dearness Allowance payable to Central Government employees with effect
from 1st July, 1996 shall stand modified as follows:-

Basic pay above Rs. 3500/- p.m. 119% of pay su~ject to
andupto Rs.6OOOI-p.m. a mi[limum of Rs. 5565/-p.m.
Basic pay above Rs. 6000/- p.m. 103% of pay subject to
a minimum of Rs.7140/- p.m.
2. The provisions contained in paras 2 and 4 of this Ministry's O.M.No. 13017/2/86-E.II(B)
dated 21.11.1986 relating to Groups 'B', 'C' aod':'D' employees and dated 26.3.1987 relating to
Group' A' employees shall continue to bt;:applicable, while regulating Dearness Allowance under
these orders. '
3. The additional instalment of dearness allowance payable under these orders shall be paid in
cash to all CentralGovemment employees, including Al1Ded Forces and Railway personnel.
4. The payment on account of Dearness Allowance involving fractions of 50 paise and above
may be rounded off to the next higher rupee and the fractions of less than 50 paise may be ignored.
S. These orders shall also apply to ,the civilian employees paid from the Defence Services
Estimates and the expenditure will be chargeable to the relevant Head of the Defence Services
Estimates. In regard to Armed Forces Pt~rsonneland Railway employees, separate orders will be
issued by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Railways, respectively.
6. In so far as the persons serving in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department are concerned,
these orders issue after consultation with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
