A Peculiar Day's Journey

The narrator had a strange day that included finding a surprise letter from their friend John about his trip to New York. On the bus ride into the city, an old lady told the narrator a sad story about her family living far away in New York. Later, at the park, some boys playing ball caused an American tourist to fall in the water, hurting his leg. By evening, the narrator was tired and decided to go home to dream about Central Park.
