Form Q Decision at Work: Situation

Patrick has been offered a new position that would require 9 months of training in London. He must decide whether to accept the new position or remain in his current role. The options are to take the new position, which has advantages of career advancement and new experiences but disadvantages of being away from home for an extended time, or to stay in his current role, which avoids relocation but forgoes opportunities of the new position. I would advise Patrick to accept the new position for the long term career benefits, but to carefully consider the personal costs of an extended stay away from home and friends.

FORM Q

DECISION AT WORK
Situation
My cousin Patrick has just been offered a great new position at work. If he takes this new job, he
will have to go to London for training for nine months. He needs to decide if he will accept the new
position or not. Tell me what advice you think I should give him.
First
You should look at the pictures below and ask:
What are his options?
What is the advantage to each option?
What is the disadvantage to each option?
Then
When you have all the information you need, explain which option would be best and why. Be
ready to explain why you didnt choose the other option. Remember to use information you learn
from asking questions to explain your final choice.
Finally
After you have shared your decision, you will be asked more questions about the topic.
