Learning Intentions/ Outcomes: Students will be able to represent the five emotions, Joy, Sadness,
Disgust, Anger, Fear through Media Art specifically focusing on image, sound and words.

Students will be able to present an Image, sound and word on each of the five emotions from inside out.

Group Structure: Students will be working in pairs for the main task

Planning for inclusive practice: I have included an example for the students to see and I have given
each pair a checklist so they can know exactly what they need to do.

(First Years- You may only need to plan one part of this lesson at first year level, check with your mentor teacher)

Warm-Up/ Engage:

Students will watch the introduction trailer to inside out

Emotions/characters will be written on the board with student input.

Time Allocation:5mins

Whole Class Experience/ Explain: (modelled / shared)

Using cameras and/or iPads, students will in pairs take a picture, record a sound or noise, and choose a
word that represents each of the five emotions from inside out:

Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, Fear

Sound: Yippee!!

Students may go outside the classroom within school boundaries.

Students who may need some extra assistance to think of words to describe the emotion can use
thessarus or have a small group with the teacher to brainstorm ideas.

Independent or Group Activities: (What will other groups/students work on while the teacher is working

Students break off into pairs and take pictures, record a sound and choose a word for each of the five
emotions.

Students can refer to their check list to ensure they have achieved everything:

Image Sound Word

Joy

Sadness

Disgust

Anger

Fear

Students should document their word on their check list.

If students finish early they can come back and start putting their image, sound and word on the
IWB from the teachers computer.

Students will come back together and will choose one emotion to combine the image sound and
word together to represent to the class. This will be done on the teachers computer (with teacher
assistance if needed) so that a slideshow of each of the emotions can be put together.
This will provide a collaborative slideshow/ media show on each of the emotions.

Explain to students that they will make a story board about Joy. They can include other characters from
inside out but Joy should be the main character.
The story board needs to have a clear Beginning, Middle and End ask students what a beginning,
middle and end looks like. Write answers on the board

Explore/ Main content:

Students may work individually or in a pair to create their story board.

It may be beneficial to give some students an overall planning sheet to assist them

Scaffolding: Students who may need extra assistance to make a plan can come together with the teacher
to brainstorm ideas.

Extension: Students who may finish their story board may like to have a go at videoing one of their
scenes.

Time Allocation:35mins

Reflection/ Evaluate/ Elaborate: (How will you gauge how the students met the success criteria?)

Students will come back together and discuss what they enjoyed about that task and what they found
challenging.
I would use this time to also discuss the importance of having a beginning middle and end in media.

I would choose 1-2 story boards and share them with the class.
