Introduction
‘This system standard specifies the properties ofa piping system and ils components when made from glass-
reinforced thermosatting plastics (GRP) based on unsaturated polyester resin (UP) inlendad to be used for
drainage and seweroge with or without pressure.
‘The working group responsible for this Euopean Standard is currently working on a test method ang
requirements for assessing resistance to impact damage. When this work is completed it may resull in
additional requirements being incorporeted inlo this European Standard
“The working group responsible for this European Standard is currently working on @ test method fo assess the
abrasion resistance of the pipe interior surface. When this work is completed i! may result in an additional
requirement being incerporated into his Europssn Slandare.
‘This European Standard was prepared recognizing the guideline: of EN 4761DIN EN 44364:2009-02
EN 14364:2006+A1:2008 (E)
1 Scope
‘This European Standard specifies the required properties of the piping system and #s components made from
glass-reinforced thermosetting plasics (GRP) based on unsaturated polyester resin (UP) intended to be used
for drainage or sewerage with or witnoul pressure. In pipework system, pipes and tings of different nominal
pressure and stitess ratings may be used together.
NOTE 1 Iie the responsbilly of the purchaser of specifer lo make the appropriate selections tom these aspects,
{king into account thew particule requirements and any telvant national regulations anc stalls practices ot codes
‘This Ewopeen Standard is applicable to GRP-UP, with flexible or right jolts (see 3.37 ang 3.38), primarily
Intended for use in buried insaliatons,
NOTE? Piping systems conforning to this European Slandard can be used sls0 for non dure appllcstons provided
the intuence of t¥e envionment, eg. ram UVeraciaton, and the supperts are considered In the design of the pipes,
Tings an jis,
Itis applicable to pipes, fitings and thelr joints of nominal sizes from DN 100 10 ON 3000, which are intended
to be used for the conveyance of surface water or sewage at lemperatures up Io 50°C, wih oF without
pressure,
This European Standard covers a range of nominal sizes, nominal stiffnesses and nominal pressures.
Clause 4 species the general aspects of GRP-UP piping system intended fo be used in the field of drainage
‘or sewerage, with or without pressure
Clause 5 species the characteristics of pipes made fom GRP-UP with or without aggregates andior filers.
“The pipes can have a thermosetting oF nermoplasties liner. Clause 5 also specifies the lest parameters for the
test methods referred to in ths European Standarc,
Clause 6 specifies the characteristics of fitings made from [Link] with eilher @ termoseting or
thermoplastics liner imended 10 be used in the field of drainage or sewerage. Cieuse€ specifies the
‘dimensional and performance requirements for bends, branches, reducers, saddles and flanged adaptors and
it also specifies the test parameters for he lest methods referred Io inthis European Standard.
Clause 6 is appiicable to fitings made using any ofthe following techniques:
1). fabricated from straight pipe;
b) moulded by
1) lament winding;
2) tape winaing:
3) contact moulding:
4) hot or cold press moulding
Clause 7 is applicable to the joints 10 be used in GRP-UP piping systems to be used for the conveyance of
water. both buried and non-buried. This specification is applicable to joints, which are or are nol inlended to be
resistant lo axial loading. It covers requirements fo prove the cesign of the jail. Clause 7 specifies type test
Performance requirements forthe folowing joints es @ function of the deciared nominal pressure rating of the

3. Terms, definitions and symbols
For the purposes of this European Standard the following terms, definitions and symbols apply.
34
rominal size
DN
alphanemerical designation of size of component, which is @ convenient inleger approximately equal to a
manufactuing dimension in mm. This can apply to either Ihe intemal diameter (OND) or the external
diameter (DN-OD)
NOTE The designation fo: reterence or marking purposes consis of he elles DN-D or DN-OD plus @ number.
32
declared diameter
igmeter which a manufacturer slates (0 be the mean internal or external diameter produced in respect of &
particular nominal size ON
33
nominal stiffness
SN
alphanumerical designation for stiffness classiteation purposes, which has the sare numerical valve as the
‘minimum initial specie ring stifness value sequiied, when expressed In Newions per square metre (Nim*)
(s90 4.1.3)
NOTE The designation for eference or marking purposes cUnsists of he letters SN pus @ number
34
specific ring stiffness
s
physical characteristic of the pipe, expressed in Newtons per square metre (Nim), IL is a measure of the
Fasistance to ring deflection per melie langih under external cad and is defined by Equation (1)
Ext
o
ey
where
E is the apparent modulus of elastciy, which can be derives from the resut ofthe nng stitness test
ja, EN 1228, expressed in Newtons per square metre (Nim?)
hq is the mean dameter of the pipe, in metres (m) (see 3.5);
7” is the second moment of area in the longitudinal direction per metre length, in metres to the fourth
power per metre, (m‘kn) (see Equation (2))
