Numidia: Location and History Overview

Numidia was an ancient Berber kingdom located in northern Africa. It was situated on the eastern border of modern-day Algeria, bordered by Roman provinces and the Sahara desert. The Numidians were divided into two groups, the Massyli and Massaesyli, and were pastoral nomads and traders who did business with the Carthaginians. After Carthage was destroyed, thousands of Carthaginians fled to Numidia. The kingdom was later unified under the rule of King Massinissa.
