CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The membership of Indian Geotechnical Society is open to individuals, institutions and organizations
whose activities/interests are consistent with the aims of the society. The categories of membership and
the required qualifications are as follows.
MEMBERSHIP (LIFE)-the applicant should possess one of the following qualifications.
(1) Degree in engineering or equivalent
(2) Diploma in engineering with three years of experince in geotechnical engineering.
(3) A Master's Degree in science with research experience of at least five years in
geotechnical engineering.
FELLOWSHIP- The members can upgrade their membership to fellowship one can also apply directly
for admission to Fellowship, fulfilling following conditions.
The minimum qualifications for Fellowship are that applicant
(I) Should have a continuous membership of the society of 12 years or more
or
Should have attained the age of 45 on the date of application.
(ii) Should possess a degree in civil engineering awarded by a recognized university.
In addition the applicant should possess one of the following qualifications:
(I) Should possess a M. Tech/Ph.D/Equivalent. Degree in geotechnical engineering / in an
allied area
(ii) Should hold the post of Assoc. Professor or above in a reputed engineering college.
(iii) Should hold the post of Superintending Engineer / Equivalent in Government /Public
Sector Organizations
(iv) Should hold the rank of Lt. Colonel or above/equivalent in the armed forces.
(v) Should hold the position of Chief Executive Officer / Managing Director / Equivalent in
private organizations.
(vi) Should possess high academic credentials / hold a responsible position which can be
considered equivalent to the above qualifications.

MEMBERSHIP
Open to Individuals, institutions and organizations whose activities or interests are consistent
with the aims of the Society with minimum qualification being one of the following
(I) Degree in Engineering or equivalent
(ii) Diploma in Engineering with 3 years of certified experience in any of
Geotechnical Engineering field
(iii) A Masters Degree in science or equivalent with 2 years experience in any of
Geotechnical Engineering field
(iv) A Bachelor's Degree in Science with certified research experience of at least 5
years in any field of Geotechnical Engineering.
Category Open to
(a) Membership Individuals, one can also make one-time payment to become Life Member as per fee
in Table 1 or upon payment of stipulated amount in a single instalment to become
Donor Member.
(b) Fellowship Members with at least 12 years of good standing and meeting eligibility criteria. One
can also make one-time payment to become Life Fellow as per fee in Table 1.
Individuals who have attained prominent position in the profession and have at least
20 yeas of professional experience or high educational qualification alongwith at
least 15 years of professional experience can also be considered for direct
admission to Fellowship. In addition to fee for Fellowship, an admission fee is
chargeable for such direct admission Upon payment of stipulated amount on a single
installment, one can become an Donor Fellow. Age Should be above 45 Years.
Honorary Fellowship Conferred on persons who have made outstanding contribution to geotechnical
engineering .
