III. Procedure
A. Routinary Activities
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
a. Greetings
: Good morning class! (All the students are standing up)
: Good morning Ms. Cedeño!
b. Prayer
: Remain standing for the morning
prayer.
Our father who art in heaven
hollowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done on earth as it (The whole class prays)
is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and
forgive us our trespasses as we
forgive those who trespassed against
us.
Lead us not into temptation but
deliver us from evil.
Amen
: Okay, you may sit.
c. Checking of attendance
: Miss secretary please give me the
attendance at the end of the class.
d. Review
: A few students raise their hands.
Through oral recitation:
: Ma’am, the 4 phases of matter are
: Okay class, before we start our new solid, liquid, gas and plasma.
lesson let us have a quick review f our
topic last week.
: What are the 4 phases of matter?
: Very good! Thank you miss ----.
e. Drill
Give examples of living and non-living
organisms and let the students
identify and classify them.
Repeat this drill for a short while for
memorization and mastery.
f. Motivation
Ask the students to face their
seatmate. Ask them to pinch their
seatmate lightly on the wrist.
: What did you feel when your : I felt pain ma’am.
seatmate pinched you?
: Yes, very good! You feel. You felt
pain thus your reacted upon the
stimuli. We human beings react upon
certain stimuli.
(Students raise their hands to answer)
: For example, if you put your hand
on a hot surface what would you do? : I will instantly withdraw my hand
from the hot surface ma’am.
: Very good! You reacted upon it thus
removing your hand from the hot
surface.
That is only one of the many
characteristics of a living organism.
Class, today we are going to talk
about the living and the non-living.
IV. Lesson Proper
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
a. Presentation
: (Present a ppt showing pictures of
living, non-living and once lived.)
: So, class what have you observed with (Students raise their hands to answer)
the pictures shown? : Ma’am I see a tree, a sun and a wooden
chair.
: What do you think does these objects
signify with connection to our lesson
today?
(Calls for another student, pauses…) : Ma’am I think that the objects are living
and non-living.
: Thank you! Very good Ms. ---.
b. Discussion
So, class let me ask you this first… what is (Students raise their hands to answer)
living and non-living? : Ma’am I think living things have life and
non-living things are the things that do not
: Yes, very good answer Mr. ---. have life.
: There are two components which build
up an ecosystem. The biotic and the
abiotic. Abiotic factors refer to non-
living physical and chemical elements in
the ecosystem. Abiotic resources are
usually obtained from the lithosphere,
atmosphere, and hydrosphere. Examples
of abiotic factors are water, air, soil,
sunlight, and minerals.
Biotic factors are living or once-living
organisms in the ecosystem. These are
obtained from the biosphere and are
capable of reproduction. Examples of
biotic factors are animals, birds, plants,
fungi, and other similar organisms.
Examples: (show the same chart earlier
but with classifications.)
Living Non-living Once lived
(Students read the characteristics shown
on the presentation)
To be alive an organism has to fit distinct
characteristics.
1. Feeding
2. Movement
3. Respiration
4. Excretion
5. Growth
6. Sensitivity
7. Reproduction
Living things have the ability to adapt and
react just like how you reacted from the
pinch earlier.
We humans or all living things in general
are interdependent with the non-living or
the abiotic factors such as temperature,
the sun and many others. We depend also
depend on other living organisms in order
to survive.
(Students raise their hands to answer)
For example, the sun itself. Could we : No, ma’am. Probably not.
possibly live and survive without it?
: Yes, very good! Does the class agree (The whole class agrees)
with Mr. ---‘s answer?
(Asks a follow up question, call another (Students raise their hands to answer)
student) : Because, we depend on the sun’s heat to
: How so? give us warmth to regulate our body
temperature.
:Yes, very good! Thank you Ms. --- .
: Let us have a living and non-living test. (The whole class participates)
Living Test: Is a fish alive?
• Can it move?
• Can it grow?
• Can it breathe?
• Does it react?
• Does it reproduce?
Non-Living Test: Is a pen alive?
• Does someone/something else have
to make it?
• Does someone/something else have
to move it?
• Was it once living, but not
anymore?
Biotic organisms depend on abiotic things
to survive. We need sunlight, the plants
need sunlight and animals need sunlight.
Water is abiotic. But we need water to
survive. We all need oxygen to breath.
c. Application
: Seems like you are all set for our activity.
Okay, we will group the class into three.
(Students count to three and proceeds to
First person on the left start counting 1-3.
their respective groups)
Proceed to your group numbers silently.
(Give instructions)
: Classify the given examples by their
characteristics. Draw images of the
examples given. Explain why it is classified
as living, non-living or once lived.
Are my instructions crystal clear?
: Okay, you are given 8 minutes to finish :Yes ma’am!
this activity. You may start now.
(Students proceed to activity)
1. 3.
2. 4.
5.
(Students nearly finished)
: Two minutes left. :Done ma’am.
: Everybody done?
: This is the rubric for your presentation.
You will be graded accordingly.
Criteria: Neatness of work – 15%
Content – 30%
Mastery and delivery – 25 %
A total of 100%.
(Students present their works)
Okay group 1 you may start your
presentation.
(Students answered correctly)
(Ask random questions about how they
come up with their answers)
(Students clap and cheer)
: Congratulations to everyone! You have
done great today. All groups got perfect.
: (Ask students to settle down)
d. Generalization
: Seems like you all had a clear
understanding with our topic today, I will
throw some questions before we have our
short quiz.
: No, ma’am. (The class say in chorus)
1. Will biotic organisms be able to survive
without the abiotic?
(Students raise their hands to answer)
Is that so? Why do you think so? : Because biotic depend on abiotic factors
(Follow up question) to survive.
: Yes, very good!
(Students raise their hands to answer)
2. In what way does the abiotic help the biotic : Like how the sun ma’am who is an
on ways of survival? Site an example. abiotic factor, give us heat to regulate our
body temperature in order for us to
: Excellent answer Mr. ---! survive ma’am.
(Students raise their hands to answer)
: Physical change ma’am and evolution.
3. What kind of change do all living things
encounter?
: Very good. Thank you!
(Students raise their hands to answer)
4. Having it said that change is constant, what : Adaptability ma’am. The ability to adapt.
ability of a living thing must be applied?
: Very good answer!
IV. Evaluation
