Engine Control System......................................... 2

This document provides information on engine control systems, including the accelerator control system, idling control system, and accelerator switch adjustment. It describes how to adjust the accelerator wire and pedal for gasoline and diesel engine models, as well as how to inspect and adjust the idling control system and accelerator switch. Proper adjustment procedures and torque specifications are provided.

Accelerator Control System

ACCELERATOR WIRE
Adjustment
Gasoline engine model (H-series engine)
Loosen accelerator wire outer casing lock nut on carburetor side.
Move outer casing in direction of arrow until throttle valve starts to
open (or throttle lever just moves away from throttle adjustment
screw). From that position, move outer casing back by 0.5 to 1.0
mm (0.020 to 0.039 in) and tighten lock nut.
ECM0002

Diesel engine model (TD27 engine)

I On models equipped with control knobs, turn the knob fully
counterclockwise, then adjust as described below:
I Loosen lock nut on accelerator wire which is connected to fuel
injection pump. Move outer casing in direction of arrow until
accelerator lever starts to move away from idle adjustment
screw. From that position, move outer casing back by 0.5 to 1.0
mm (0.020 to 0.039 in) and tighten lock nut.

ECM0003

Installation
Observe the following notes during installation:
a. Accelerator wire bending radius must be as large as pos-
sible.
b. Be careful not to bend inner wire and outer casing sharply
since they may become deformed or damaged.

ACCELERATOR PEDAL
Adjustment
I Depress accelerator pedal until throttle lever is in contact with
maximum throttle adjustment screw (on gasoline engine mod-
els) or until accelerator control lever is in contact with maximum
speed setscrew (on diesel engine models). At this point, stop-
per bolt must be in contact with accelerator pedal. If necessary,
adjust stopper bolt.

ECM0004

I After adjusting stopper bolt, tighten lock nut.

I After properly adjusting both accelerator wire and accelerator
pedal (as described above), check to ensure throttle lever is in
contact with throttle adjustment screw (on gasoline engine
models) or accelerator control lever is in contact with idle
adjustment screw (on diesel engine models).

Idling Control System

ECM0005

INSPECTION
Check to ensure when idle control knob is turned fully
counterclockwise, that idle control lever pawl moves away from
accelerator shaft lever and that idle adjustment wire has no exces-
sive free play.

ADJUSTMENT
With control knob turned fully counterclockwise, move outer casing
in direction of arrow until idle control lever pawl is in contact with
accelerator shaft lever (or until accelerator shaft starts to move).
From that position, move outer casing back by 1 mm (0.04 in) and
secure with clip.

Accel Switch Adjustment

Gasoline engine model
I Install the accel wire before installing the switch.
I With the accel lever completely returned, tighten the lock nut to
the specified torque so that the screw of the switch lightly
touches the stopper.
: 12 - 14 N⋅m (1.2 - 1.5 kg-m, 9 - 10 ft-lb)

ECM0006

Diesel engine model

I Install the accel wire and idle control wire before installing the
switch.
I With the accel lever and idle control wire completely returned,
tighten the lock nut to the specified torque so that the screw of
the switch lightly touches the stopper.

ECM0007

I Tighten until accel switch screw part touches the stopper part.
Then, turn counterclockwise one time, and tighten lock nut.
: 12 - 14 N⋅m (1.2 - 1.5 kg-m, 9 - 10 ft-lb)
(For Diesel engine models, adjust idle control wire in
advance.)
I Make sure that when accelerator pedal is pressed at 5 to 9 mm
(0.20 to 0.35 in), the switch turns ON, and when the accelera-
tor pedal is released, the switch turns OFF.
