TALK 3: FORGIVING – How to Live in Total Freedom
HOW TO LIVE IN TOTAL FREEDOM
I. Talk Series: THE REAL SCORE. To know the TRUTH in LIFE. There are 3
VIRTUES in Christian Life. FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE.
A. [ta] And the greatest of these is? LOVE! Love is the greatest
VIRTUE/THE GREATEST POWER on Earth!
II. 1 Corinthians 4-5 (NIV)
A. [Story] Rosamond: Replace the word LOVE and IT with your name.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not
proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily
angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
III. The 3 Points about the greatest Power on Planet Earth, The greatest power
is LOVE. 1. PATIENCE, 2. NOT ENVIOUS, 3. FORGIVING.
A. Sabi ni Brother Noel: Be forgiving. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
IV. GOAL: To have a Forgiving Attitude
A. Today. Not just forgive
B. Encourage to have a forgiving attitude
1. Forgiving 1 time
2. Forgiving attitude – normal, usual, regular you. EVERYDAY.
C. [ta] Do you want to be happy in life? Develop a forgiving attitude.
1. [ta] bakit brader, bakit ko sila kailangan patawarin paulit-ulit?
Kasi yung mga nasa paligid mo walang perfect. Ang family mo,
parents mo, kapatid mo, ang katabi mo, ikaw rin, ako rin.
2. [ta] tignan katabi, mukha bang perfect yan? Yes? Baka alien
yan! O robot! Pero lahat tayo may mga pagkukulang.
3. Everyday you will get hurt. Matatapakan ka. May tatadyak sa
iyo. May maninira sa iyo. May sasaksak sa iyo sa likod.
V. Matthew 18:21-22 (NRSV) JESUS SAID, FORGIVE SEVENTY TIMES SEVEN.
A. [ta] ilan ang seventy times seven? Meron ba magaling mag mulitply?
490? In the bible, brothers and sisters 70x7 = symbol for forever.
B. Sabi ni Jesus, FORGIVE FOREVER, FORGIVE ALL THE TIME! Have a
forgiving attitude!
C. If you don’t have a forgiving attitude, you cannot enjoy any imperfect
relationship.
VI. DO YOU HAVE AN UNFORGIVING ATTITUDE?
A. Ikaw ba ito? This person is an unhappy person.
1. Waiter wrong order: sira buong araw
2. Mali yung na-punch ng cashier: bwisit ka na at nagdadabog
3. Hiniram ng kapatid mo ang extra sapatos mo ng walang
paalam: hindi mo sya kinausap ng isang buong linggo
4. Hindi nakapagmano yung anak mo (baka nakalimutan, may
inaasikaso): mainit ang ulo mo sa kanya
5. Friend forgets to say thank you for her bday gift: hindi mo na
sya bibigyan next year
B. Alam nyo ang nakakaloka rito sa ganitong attitude? Habang andun ka
sa sulok mo, nagmumukmok at nabubuwisit, at the same time
pwedeng yung kinaiinisan mo nasa Kamia Bay nag-eenjoy. Ok ba ang
UNFORGIVING ATTITUDE?
C. AN UNFORGIVING ATTITUDE IS NOT WISE
1. [story with water bottle props] Meron kang friend, close na
close kayo. Isang araw nagtaksil sya sa iyo. Sobrang galit na galit
ka. Pumunta ka ng tindahan, bumili ka ng Lason, THIODAN/ DORA
RAT-KILLER. Pag-uwi mo, ininom mo yung lason! Tapos sumigaw
ka: WALANGHIYA KA! SANA MAMATAY KA NA!
2. Sino ang baliw? Ikaw. Friends, yan rin ang kabaliwan ng isang
UNFORGIVING ATTITUDE.
VII. BE SELFISH: HAVE A FORGIVING ATTITUDE!
A. [story] woman caught her husband with many kabit. DEVASTATED sya!
Nasugatan ang kanyang puso, tinanim nya ang kanyang galit. Unti
unting naapektuhan ang health nya. Nagkarun sya ng cancer, after 2
years namatay sya. Anong nangyari sa aswa nya? Ayun marami pa ring
girlfriend.
VIII. FORGIVENESS IS FIRST OF ALL A GIFT YOU GIVE YOURSELF. FORGIVENESS IS
ALMOST A SELFISH ACT – BECAUSE OF THE INCREDIBLE BLESSING THE
FORGIVER GETS!
A. [story] meron kaming business partner dati. Pinagkatiwalaan namin.
Pinahiram ng worth around 20k. Business Expansion. More than 1
month sweldo. Tinakbuhan kami. Angry. I prayed. After some time. I
decided in my heart to forgive this person. Today our business has
grown more than 10x in size since then. God has prospered our
business. We have earned more than 10x what we lost. We have
travelled to other countries, and we are excited for the future and we
know that the best is yet to come.
B. Yung dati naming business partner? Hindi ko alam. I am still praying
for him.
IX. FORGIVENESS TAKES SUPERHUMAN POWERS.
A. Gusto mong maging superhero? Forgive. Hindi mo kaya kasi Wala kang
superpowers? Pray and God will give you the grace to forgive.
B. [ta] Friend, I forgive you, naka-move on na ako.
X. WHAT IS THE ROOT OF AN UNFORGIVING ATTITUDE?
A. Kung nasaktan ka, Mahirap ba mag-forgive? Yes! We have to ask:
WHAT is the root of an unforgiving attitude?
B. Gusto nyong malaman? Bakit mahirap mag-forgive? [ta] LISTEN
CLOSELY:
1. OUR INABILITY TO FORGIVE OTHERS COMES FROM OUR
INABILITY TO FORGIVE OURSELF. Hindi natin mapatawad ang iba
kasi hindi natin mapatawad ang ating sarili
2. If you do not receive God’s mercy, you cannot give mercy to
others.
3. Colossians 3:13 Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
C. [story] Felipe. Hard time forgiving others. Something he does not
realize. When he does wrong, he is miserable. Does not allow himself
to be happy. He punishes himself.
1. He verbally says that God forgives his sin.
2. He subconscious pays for the sin. By being miserable and not
happy. By upunishing himself.
3. Result? Pag may naka-offend sa kanya, (madalas, kasi balat
sibuyas). Mahigpit rin ang standards nya. He wants them to pay
for their sin as well.
XI. STOP TRYING TO PAY FOR YOUR SINS!
A. There are still Catholics who do penitensya. Way of punishing
themselves for their sins.
1. But some use an emotional not a physical whip.
1. Depressed. Accept suffering even if not connected with their
mistake.
2. They say God loves them. Sing praise and worship. But inside
they want to pay for their sins
B. Stop trying to pay for your sins. REST IN HIS MERCY. LET GOD PAY FOR
YOUR SINS.
C. Ito ang mga taong nahihirapang magpatawad. They have an
UNFORGIVING ATTITUDE BECAUSE they have not forgiven themselves.
You cannot give what you have not received.
XII. GOD SAYS, I DESIRE MERCY, NOT SACRIFICE (MT 9:13)
A. But there are people who like to sacrifice.
B. They want to keep sacrificing to God for their sins.
C. Worse, they want others to also sacrifice for their sins.
D. BUT GOD WANTS MERCY. God wants mercy.
XIII. ONLY GOD CAN PAY YOU
A. The root of all UNFORGIVENESS is FEAR. That you will not get back
what you lost, if you don’t make them pay for their mistakes.
B. You do not understand that THEY cannot pay you.
C. ONLY GOD CAN PAY YOU.
D. God saw you. When you were offended. Hurt. Abandoned.
E. May nagnakaw ba sa iyo? Nanakit sa iyo? Nag-offend sa iyo?
Nambastos sa iyo?
XIV. GOD SAYS: YOUR SHAME AND DISGRACE ARE ENDED. YOU WILL LIVE IN
YOUR OWN LAND. AND YOUR WEALTH WILL BE DOUBLED; YOUR JOY WILL
LAST FOREVER! (ISA 61:7)
A. God is telling you. AKO ANG BAHALA SA IYO. IPAUBAYA MO SA AKIN
ANG SITWASYON MO. IBABALIK KO ANG NAWALA SA IYO. DOBLE PA.
B. As long as you let go and forgive, God will be your Avenger. Trust in
Him. Ang mga mali itatama. Ibabalik ang nawala sa iyo. He is the most
powerful [Link] ang bahala sa iyo.
C. Naalala nyo ba si Job. Di ba meron syang friends na bumisita sa kanya.
Pero kinutya rin sya. Sinabihan sya na: “Kawawa ka naman.” “Pero
siguro meron kang kasalanan kaya nangyari yang mga kamalasan
mong yan.”
XV. THEN, AFTER JOB HAD PRAYED FOR HIS THREE FRIENDS, THE LORD MADE
HIM PROSPEROUS AGAIN AND GAVE HIM TWICE AS MUCH AS HE HAD
BEFORE. (JOB 42:10)
A. If you forgive and pray for your enemies. Get ready. To be. VERY
BLESSED.
B. Unforgiveness is takingmatters in your hands.
C. Forgiveness is taking matters in God’s hands.
XVI. THE MARK OF GOD (THE PATH OF BLESSINGS)
A. What is Forgiveness? FORGIVENESS IS BEING KIND BEYOND WHA TIS
REASONABLE.
B. Forgiveness is the Mark of God in your life.
XVII. WHEN YOU TREAT WELL THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T DESERVE TO BE
TREATED WELL
A. [story] Dr. MT. Medical student. Resident doctor. 24hr duty.
Endorsements. OPD rotation. Lowest grade. Lower than absent
groupmate.. Hated him. For years. One day I decided to forgive him.
B. After that I felt free and happy. I also felt God’s blessing flow more
into my life.
XVIII. [STAND] Our Series THE REAL SCORE asks What is the Truth in LIFE? Ano
ang totoong importante sa buhay? That the greatest CHRISTIAN VIRTUE IS
LOVE! Ano ang itatanong sa iyo ni God bago ka makapasok sa langit?
“HOW DID YOU LOVE?”
XIX. LOVE IS PATIENT…
A. Our series talked about PATIENCE, NOT ENVIOUS, FORGIVING.
B. [ta] do you know your seatmates name? Ask. [ta] I love you ___.
C. Replace LOVE with your name and let us read aloud..
D. It is your turn to love. Have a forgiving attitude, a loving attitude.
E. Pray for and bless all who have offended you. Forgive them.
F. Believe that you will receive double what you have lost. Leave it up to
God.
