Prefabricated lintel design

Lintel L1 design

2 No. of lintels are used on an existing cavity wall on the second floor. The wall is typical brick outside and block work insi
with a maximum height above opening of 500mm is estimated. No other load is considered to act on the lintel.

Opening span l 800 mm

Wall height above lintel h 500 mm
Unit weight of cavity wall w 3.01 kN/m²

Load combination
LC1: 1.35 DL = 1.35 x 1.51 kN = 2.03 kN per m run

Assumed lintels are sharing the load equally than provide Naylor lintel ER1 with a load carrying capacity of
for 900 mm opening
Lintel is safe

Lintel L4 design

Lintel 4 is located on first floor, supporting an 800mm high cavity wall, timber frame wall and flat roof structure.

Lintel clear span l 600 mm

Cavity wall height above lintel h1 800 mm
Weight of cavity wall w1 2.41 kN/m
Timber wall height above lintel h2 2200 mm
Weight of external stud wall w1 2.10 kN/m
Roof tributary area 1.75 m/m
Roof weight w3 0.89 kN/m
Live load on roof LL 1.75 kN/m
Snow load on roof SL 0.70 kN/m

Load combinations:
Client: Jon Greenhalgh,
Project: 1422 - Bear Gardens
Doc. No.: 01
Rev. A Date: 7/29/2019
LC1: 1.35DL + 1.5LL = 9.9 kN/m run
LC2: 1.2DL + 1.2LL + 1.2SL = 9.4 kN/m run

Taking worst case and multiplied with span the loading is: 5.94 kN
