ARRANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT

o How can you place items that will encourage requests?


o Are there distractions getting in the way of communication opportunities?

o Think about giving more time for a response
o Be careful that you respond before interest is lost, we want to keep the
interaction!

MODEL AND EXPAND


o Think about narrating your surroundings and actions.
o Is what you are modeling simple enough to imitate?

TRY FOR ONE MORE TURN


o Get just one more simple action or sound.
o Done with the activity? Putting an object away can be a turn!

When to Try…
 During meal times. Give a choice and then use wait time.
 During play time. Putting some toys out of sight will encourage longer focus time, or try
for just one more turn when a game seems to be done.
 During routines such as bath time or getting dressed. Model simple words for actions
and items used during this time.
 Any other routine that is familiar to your family!
