Berth to berth passage plan for the intended passage prepared and available on the
1. bridge with the route plotted on up to date and appropriate scale charts (official paper or
electronic).
2. Passage plan, checked and approved by the Master.
3. Passage plan briefed to the Bridge Team.
4. Passage plan entered into integrated system.
5. Route displayed on ECDIS and/or other electronic navigation aids, as appropriate.
6. Up to date charts and nautical publications available.
7. Latest Notices to Mariners (week number).
B. Equipment Checks (Tested, Synchronized and Ready for Use)
8. AIS (voyage data updated and correct).
9. Anchors, cables and winches.
10. Ancillary bridge equipment (e.g. binoculars).
11. BNWAS.
Has BNWAS (with motion sensors) been checked at least once a day to ensure it is

operating correctly?
13. Clocks synchronized with engine room.
14. Course and engine movement recorder/bridge movement book.
15. Deck power.
16. ECDIS and/or other electronic navigations aids.
17. Settings on both ECDIS systems inspected by navigator.
18. The Safety Contour, Safety Depth, Shallow Contour, Deep Contour
19. Echo sounder.
20. Electronic position fixing systems.
21. Emergency engine stops.
22. GMDSS communications and GMDSS log.
23. Gyro/magnetic compass and repeaters, including repeater in steering gear area
24. LRIT.
25. Radar(s) and ARPA.
26. Speed and distance log.
27. Stabilizers.
Steering gear, including manual, auto-pilot and emergency changeover arrangements and

rudder indicators.
29. VDR/S-VDR.
Bridge and engine room telegraphs, including:
RPM and ROT indicators.
30. Engine(s)/propulsion (ahead/and astern) and prepared for maneuvering.
Thruster controls and indicators, if fitted.
Controllable pitch propeller controls and indicators, if fitted.
Communications facilities, including:
Internal communications (particularly bridge to engine room/bridge to mooring
31. stations).
Portable radios.
VHF radio communications with port authority.
Navigation and signal lights, including:
32. Signaling equipment including flags, search lights and signal lamps.
Morse light.
Sound signaling apparatus, including:.
33. Whistles.
Fog bell and gong system.
34. Window wiper / clear view screen arrangements.
C. Ports and Pilotage
35. Master/Pilot information exchange checklist completed.
36. Pilot Card prepared.
37. Pilot boarding time confirmed.
38. Pilot boarding arrangements ready for disembarkation of the Pilot.
39. Port and VTS channels monitored.
40. Port, VTS and Pilot advised of any special requirements.
This checklist should be placed in the bridge and completed & signed prior sailing.
