School Clinic Chronic Disease Report

The document summarizes data from a school clinic on chronic diseases among students. It shows that the most common chronic disease is asthma, affecting mostly grade school students, while hypertension occurs more in senior high school students. Possible causes of asthma include environmental factors, stress, and overexertion, while hypertension may be due to stress, lack of sleep, and unhealthy diets. The treatments recommended for asthma include the use of paper bags and oxygen, while hypertension is treated by checking vitals and potentially using medications to lower blood pressure along with lifestyle changes like exercise, diet, sleep, and stress management.

“ONE PAGE REPORT”

The graph and table shows the data gathered from the school clinic of Christian
Colleges of Southeast Asia. The first chronic disease that is experienced in the school is
Asthma. This illness usually occurs from the grade school students ages 6 and above. The
second chronic disease is Hyper Tension. This illness is not common to the children but in
the school, according to the school nurse, this sickness usually occurs in the senior high
school students ages 17 and above.

There are several reasons why these types of diseases are present in the school.
According to the school nurse, the possible causes of asthma are: the environment is too
hot, the students are experiencing emotional stress, and engaging too much in physical
activities. These are some of the reasons why the students have difficulty in breathing that
causes them to have Asthma. The possible causes of Hyper tension in the higher level are:
too much stress plus the lack of sleep and unhealthy diet. Unhealthy diet means that a
person is eating unhealthy foods just like processed food and canned goods and the person
does not exercise regularly.

For these chronic diseases, there are still treatments that can cure it. For immediate
treatment of Asthma, the nurse advised the students to improvise a paper bag into a funnel
shape. Take long and deep breaths from there to prevent hyperventilation. Breathe in
through your nose and out from your mouth. Send the patient immediately to the nearest
clinic or first aid station and let him/her be oxygenized using Nasal Cannula (NC). When the
patient is already stable, the nurse should check the blood pressure, pulse rate and vital
signs to check if the breathing is stable. Avoid the people with asthma from hot and humid
areas. Don’t strain and stress the person and stay calm and relaxed. Always maintain a
healthy diet by eating nutritious food and proper exercise. For Hyper Tension, the
immediate response is to bring him/her to the nearest clinic and let the nurse check his/her
blood pressure. The nurse might suggest Labetatol and Nicardipine as preferred
medications to immediately lower their blood pressure in span of hours. The nurse also
advised the students to walk and exercise regularly. Reduce the intake of sodium and fatty
food. Drink less alcohol and cut back caffeine. Have the proper time of sleep. Learn to
manage your own emotions. Eat more potassium-rich food.

It’s good that there are only some diseases that occur in the school community. For
us to avoid those kinds of illnesses, the most important thing to do is to have the proper diet
and good exercise. We should also avoid the things that can make it occur to you. To have
a healthy living we must first ensure that we start it with ourselves to make the better of the
world.
