Laboratory Tests on Soil and Aggregate Samples

The document outlines laboratory tests that will be conducted on subgrade material, gravel samples, and aggregate samples. Tests for subgrade and gravels will include sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, linear shrinkage, moisture-density relationship using modified compaction, and CBR at different moisture-density conditions using specified compaction methods. Tests for aggregates will include water absorption, aggregate crushing value, ten percent fines value, aggregate impact value, Los Angeles abrasion value, and soundness.

Sub-grade/ Alignment Samples

Laboratory Tests on sub grade material

Test Description Test Method
Sieve Analysis CML 1.7
Atterberg Limits and Linear Shrinkage CML 1.2, 1.3
Moisture/Density Relationship *note 1 CML 1.9
CBR *note2 CML 1.11
Note 1: Moisture/density relationship will be established using modified compaction.
Note 2: The CBR tests will be carried out at different moisture/density conditions in order
to establish Dry Density-Moisture Content-CBR relationships for each of the
representative soil types. Compaction undertaken according to CML 1.11 using 62, 30
and 62 blows per layer (5, 5, 3 layers with 4.5, 4.5 and 2.5 kg rammer respectively). Tests
will be carried out in soaked condition.
