Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility Analysis: R&R Plot - by Parts

This document provides a template for conducting a gage repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) analysis. The R&R analysis determines the measurement system variability between different operators, equipment, and parts. Data from multiple trials is entered for different platten locations and parts, and calculations are performed to determine the percentage of variation from repeatability, reproducibility, and other sources to evaluate if the measurement system is acceptable. Graphs are provided to visualize the results.

"The final acceptance of a measurement system should not come down to a single set of indices.
The performance of the measurement system should also be reviewed using graphical analyses."
For measurement systems whose purpose is to analyze a process, general rules of thumb are:
Acceptability Criteria for %R&R (% of Total Variation and % of Tolerance)
ü Under 10% - acceptable system - Under 5% preferred
ü 10% to 30% - may be acceptable depending on importance of the application, cost of the system, cost of repair, etc
ü Over 30% - considered not acceptable - every effort should be made to improve the system
