PART II
INDUSTRY ANALYSIS

Ice cream is a typical sweetened frozen food eaten as a snack or dessert. In the

Philippines, there is a traditional variation of it known as the “sorbetes”, which are uniquely

made from either coconut milk or ordinary milk. Flavors also varied from the usual natural fruits

such as mango, avocado, melon, coconut and strawberry to imitating commercial ice cream such

as chocolate, cookies and cream, cheese, ube, mocha, etc.

It is commonly peddled by street hawkers (sorbeteros) using colorfully painted wooden

carts which has 2-3 flavors each, in a large metal canister stuffed with shaved ice sprinkled with

salt to produce a lower temperature to keep the sorbetes frozen longer. Pedddlers of sorbetes

provide several serving options; it may be served in a small plastic cup, a wafer or sugar cones,

or bread buns, at varying prices. A serving can include one flavor or, for no extra charge, a

mixture of available flavors. (Wikipedia, 2017)

Siopao is a traditional Chinese cuisine that literally means “steamed bun” and now the

popular Filipino snack made from steamed rice flour bun with meat filling that was originated at

China as a baozi. It is usually filled with ground beef or pork which may be cooked in soy sauce

and seasonings commonly called as asado or shaped like a meatballs made from ground pork and

sometimes with salted egg and referred to us as the bola bola which are the two most popular

flavors in the Philippines.

3| Have it your way

There is an urban legend about the snack alleging that cat meat is used in the production

of siopao. According to historians, this story could have come from a certain sentiment towards

the Chinese Filipino community or it was theorized that it could have been a smear campaign by

competitors, or illegitimate children from a Chinese family which runs siopao business.

(Wikipedia, 2018)

Chinese culinary influences are deeply ingrained in the Filipino food culture, In the

Philippines, siopao started with the Chinese immigrant entrepreneur Ma Mon Luk, who traveled

in 1918 to escape a broken heart and became the perpetrator of the siopao and mami business.

Siopao is now typically found in variety of restaurants, convenience store, and even on street

vendors. Part of its appeal is the convenience of eating, it can be consume in one hand on

breakfast, lunch, snack and or dinner.

Aside from the ice cream (sorbetes) industry, Nata de coco is one of the usual summer

treats of the Pinoys, especially the kids. It is a traditional Philippine dessert that is chewy,

translucent, jellylike substance produced by the bacterial fermentation of coconut water and

served in the sweetened form in ice creams, halo-halo and other fruit preparations like cocktails

and salads. Nata de coco is one of the coconut milk processed products that contain high fiber

and low calories so it is suitable for dietary food which improves digestion and does not contain

cholesterol. This frozen treat doesn’t only keep you cool during sultry days, it can also give you

a nostalgic twist while chewing and enjoying its sweetness.

bittersweet chocolate perfect for a classic treat chocolate dessert. It is a comfort food that can

refreshes your mood while reducing stress and depression. It comes in a variety of forms and

may be either fudgy or cakey, depending on their density. In making a brownie, one needs to

have a flour, butter, eggs, chocolate/cocoa powder, and sugar. They may also include nuts,

frosting, cream cheese, chocolate chips, or other ingredients.

for refined cooking and eating alone as a snack. It can also provide health benefits like, it can

Ownership

The business firm is owned and governed by sole proprietorship because it is the simplest

form of business organization. The sole proprietorship is not a legal entity. It simply refers to a

person who owns the business and is personally responsible for its debts so the liability as the

owner is unlimited. The income earned by sole proprietorship is income earned by its owner.

A sole proprietor needs only to register his or her name and secure local licenses. The

owner of a sole proprietorship typically signs contracts in his/her own name, because this kind

of business organization has no separate identity under the law so there are no special rules and

regulations to follow. It does not require incorporation or registration as any kind of most cases.

A license is required to carry out the desired business between the owner and the business.
