Re: Permanent Closure of Bayou Steel Group
Dear President Robottom and Mr. France:
Because of unforeseen business circumstances and the inability to secure necessary capital,
we regretfully advise that BD LaPlace LLC will permanently close in its entirety the Bayou
Steel Group plant located at 138 Highway 3217, LaPlace, Louisiana 70068. We anticipate that
the permanent closure of the at the LaPlace plant will occur no later than November 30, 2019.
There will be layoffs of selected personnel in advance of the closing that will be dependent
upon the production needs at the plant. It is expected that these layoffs will commence on
September 30, 2019 and will continue until the plant is permanently closed.
Attached is a list of all job titles for affected positions and the number of affected employees in
each job category. Some of the employees are represented by United Steel, Paper and
Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International
Union Local 9121. The chief elected officer of Local 9121 is Ashton Pierre, who can be
reached at 2925 New Highway 51, Ste. C, Laplace, LA 70068-6471, phone 985-652-1439. For
those employees represented by the Union, bumping rights will be exercised in accordance
with the terms of the parties’ collective bargaining agreement.
This announcement and the above timetable are based on the best information currently
available. However, various factors may still affect the timing of any employment separations.
You will be informed of any significant changes in these plans, as additional information
becomes available.
We are giving this notice under the Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification Act. The giving
of this notice, however, shall not constitute an acknowledgment by the Employer of any
obligations under WARN in the event of effects of the plant closure or layoffs in advance of the
plant closure are such that WARN requirements do not apply.
