Introduction
Academic procrastination was negatively correlated with academic achievements.
However, higher correlations were found for specific task grades measured, when grades
were not self-reported, when procrastination was self-reported and when performance
was externally observed. (Kim and Seo, 2015)
In addition, Academic procrastination usually refers to the voluntary delay of an
intended course of study-related action despite expecting to be worse off for the delay.
(Steel and Klingsieck, 2016)

Statement of the problem
This study aims to determine the negative effects of academic procrastination in
terms of academic performance. The researchers will provide the following questions:
1. What are the negative effects of Academic procrastination in terms of academic
performance of the students?
2. How the academic procrastination does negatively affects the academic
performance of the students?
3. What are the consequences of doing academic procrastination in terms of
academic performance of the students?
Assumptions
1. The negative effects of academic procrastination in terms of academic
performance of the students are delay on projects, low results of their grades,
and having a lack of learnings on their academics.
2. The academic procrastination negatively affects the academic performance of
the students on their academic activities, curricular, exams, and projects.
3. The consequences of doing academic procrastination in terms of academic
performance of the students are getting low grades on academics, lacking of
time on academics, and having high chance of failure on particular academic
subject.
Significance of the study
The result and findings of this study about the negative effects of academic
procrastination in terms of academic performance to the selected grade 11 students at
the Samson College of Science and Technology will both benefit to the students, parents
/ guardians, teachers, and future researchers.
For the students, the information presented will enable them to know the negative
effects of academic procrastination in terms of academic performance, through this
research study, they will able to prevents themselves from academic procrastination and
to know how will it negatively affect them as a students.
For the parents/guardians, it is important to reach this study to the parents or
guardians of the students because they are also one of the most affected persons on this
phenomenon. This research can help them know what to do with their children who
procrastinate on their academic performances.
For the teachers, for them to be aware on those students who procrastinate on
their academic performance. Also as the teachers who are with their students during
classes, they can advise their students on what are they going to do to avoid academic
procrastination.
For the future researchers, is to give them more ideas and information if they will
conduct a study with this same phenomenon. This can help future researchers in terms
of their inquiries or questions through this specific problem.
Scope and Delimitation
This study focuses on the negative effects of academic procrastination in
terms of academic performance and will not affect nor discuss the positive effects of
academic procrastination.
In the limitation to be considered is that only focuses on the selected grade
11 students at the Samson College of Science and Technology to answer the issue
regarding to the negative effects of academic procrastination in terms of academic
performance. The proponents will conduct the research application of survey only in
Samson College of Science and Technology.
Definition of terms
Academic performance
According to Duane Sharrock, school administrator at Alternative High School.
Academic Performance describes how well you perform in school courses like
social studies, history, english, sciences, and maths, but can also include specials
or elective courses in the arts, music, health, business, and others. Academics are
courses that are gradedand retained for school records.
Academic Procrastination
Milgram et al. (1998) defined procrastination as a behavioral feature, or defect
which is specified as delaying a task or decision. Procrastination is considered as
a behavioral tendency in delaying what is necessary for achieving the goal; in other
words, it is postponing a work which we have decided to perform it.
