Title of the Practice: Best Practices on Students Admission Process
1. Objectives of the practice:
To provide gateway to higher education opportunities and future career
options for young adults to opt for a unique pathway that will lead them to a
promising future.
To follow a transparent Students Admission process in all programs of study
To ensure admission of talented and meritorious students.
To ensure the balance of regional and national diversity along with gender
diversity.
2. The Context
It is essential to ensure gender equity and access for education to all through
admission process.
The University works to bridge the gap among the students coming from
diverse environments with disparities, by deploying alternate strategies
including the use of technologies.
In order to give fair chance to opt for the most suitable professional path, the
admission process should start early. This should provide enough
opportunities for the students for advice and mentoring including counselling
for admissions.
3. The Practice:
Counselling
Chandigarh University reaches out to the students all around the Country for
the counselling and Guidance to help them choose appropriate professional
career.
Prospective students are encouraged to visit University academic support
systems like Industry collaborated Laboratories and Research facilities etc.
to possibly have mental picture about the various professional courses
offered by University.
Admission Process:
The 15 facilitation centres of University all across the country reaches out to
the prospective students to encourage them to appear for the Entrance Test
of University – Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET).
In order to attract meritorious students, scholarships are offered upto 100%.
In addition Chandigarh University provides financial and admission support
to the wards of Defense persons, Sports, NCC, Cultural achievers, Single girl
child, Physically challenged etc.
Scholarship cell under Registrar office also assist in availing different
Government scholarships for SC/ST and minority students.

University has tied up with number of Banks for providing educational loans
facilities to the needy.
Admission for International students are encouraged through embassies and
other contacts of various countries including University International
students committee. This has resulted in Chandigarh University being a
preferred destination for International students.
Strong Chandigarh University Industry linkage:
University is running specialized programs in collaboration and association
with industries like IBM, ICICI, Tally, TCS, SHRM etc
The students admitted under these programs gain hands-on experience under
Industry mentorship before finally joining the job market.
This linkage has resulted in setting up various Industry sponsored labs in the
campus to expose the students to real life work environment.
4. Evidence of Success:
As on date University has students from all 29 states, 06 UTs of India and 41
countries.
24.2% SC/ST/OBC category students are studying, which shows their faith
into the University systems.
30.7% Girl students are studying at UG, PG and PhD level, is an evidence
of success
Around 2500+ students avail the loan facility per year and the repayment rate
is very good due to excellent placements. Most of the students who have
completed their courses are now well placed in life and their standard of
living has improved.
The beneficiaries of the scholarships schemes have been able to complete
their education successfully and on time.
5. Problems encountered and resources required:
Convincing financially weak but desirous students to utilize financial
assistance in the form of loan for pursuing professional courses is a
challenge.
The adjustment of Non English speaking International students at the initial
period within the campus is a Challenge, though special bridge classes in
English and Soft skills are regularly held for such students.
Some students came from rural areas and it is difficult for them to use the
latest ICT technologies at the initial period of admission.
6. Note:
The University Policies are student centric and industry focused.
There is more demand for admission as University has obtained A+ grade in
NAAC and its programs got good ranking in NIRF.
