Calcium Chloride

Calcium chloride powder is used to form clear-brine completion and workover fluids with densities from 8.4 to 11.8 lb/gal or 1414 kg/m3. It prevents swelling clays and can achieve densities up to 19.2 lb/gal or 2301 kg/m3 when mixed with other salts. Calcium chloride powder mixes readily and provides inhibition while allowing rapid density increases with minimal volume addition.

8.4 to 11.8 lb/gal (1007 to 1414 kg/m ) or where the inhibitive properties of a
calcium fluid are required to prevent the hydration and migration of swelling
clays. CaCl2can be mixed with CaBr2 to obtain densities up to 15.1 lb/gal (1809
kg/m3). When used with ZnBr2, densities to 19.2 lb/gal (2301 kg/m3) can be
