Action Research Proposal

This action research proposal aims to study the effect of disciplinary practices on student behavior among fourth year students at Rizal High School. It will examine common discipline problems, factors influencing behavior from home/community, and the importance of administrative leadership. A descriptive research design using a questionnaire will identify discipline issues and solutions to encourage positive conduct. Results will be analyzed in December 2005 and a final report written by February 2005 to help administrators address misbehavior.

1. Title: The Effect of Disciplinary Practices on Student Behavioral Practices Among


Fourth Year Students in Rizal High School (Main)

2. Research Problem

2.1 Background of the Problem


In recent years many teachers have expressed alarm over the seeming lack of
discipline among the seniors. Perceived to be the more focused on their studies, teachers
wonder why graduating students get involve in misbehaviors risking their chances of
graduating and getting favorable character references from their advisers and guidance
officers.
Problems in school environment such as cheating, petty quarrels, truancy,
intimidation, stealing, vandalism and drug use results in classroom disruption and a
tarnished image for a well- respected institute of learning.

2.2. Significance of the Problem

To the Administrators – identification of factors that leads to misbehavior can


help the officials concerned to develop, formulate and implement a school wide
discipline plan in consultation with teachers, parents, students, school staff and local
police enforcers.

To the teachers - awareness of the kind of discipline plan implemented by the


school will enable the teachers to handle routine classroom discipline problems and
improve management skills

To the parents – involvement and knowledge of the discipline problems in


school will enable parents to adopt appropriate home-based reinforcement to foster
positive behavior

To the students – knowledge of expected conduct and sanctions for misbehavior


enable students to focus on the learning process and imbibe positive character formation

To the school staff- office personnel, canteen workers, janitors help provide a
positive environment to increase students’ feeling of belongness.

2.3 Statement of the problem

1. What are the common discipline problems?


2. What school characteristics are associated with discipline prolems?
3. What factors within the home and the community contribute to disruptive
behavior in a student?
4. How important is administrative leadership in maintaining discipline?
5. What means can the school employ to decrease disruptive behavior?
2.4 . Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The study attempts to find out how effective the present disciplinary practices
in the Rizal High School affects the behavior of fourth year students in the main campus.

The study attempts to identify the common discipline problems in school and
the factors that influence students’ behavior including those in the home and
administrative leadership.

The study aims to come up with means or solutions that will encourage
positive behavior and reduce disruptive behavior.
