COVID-19
The Earth is slowly deteriorating naturally and by the man's abusiveness. Today, the world has
been challenged and the people is sluggishly dying not because of the volcanic eruption nor the power
of the storm but ironically, humans were killed by the smallest life on the land, the virus. Presently, a
controversial disease caused by the virus strain began spreading in people in December which began in
Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. This virus is named "2019 novel corona virus" which caused deadly
disease otherwise known as COVID-19, ‘CO’ stands for corona, ‘VI’ for virus, and ‘D’ for disease. The
COVID-19 virus is a new virus linked to the same family of viruses as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
(SARS) and some types of common cold. People in anywhere else in this world is being haunted by this
killer disease, for this reason, all must know how dangerous the virus is, how it spread, its symptoms and
prevention before it cause universal downfall to mankind.
Thousands of people and hundreds of nations were affected putting the situation into a public
health emergency even the Philippines is in state of calamity this is how dangerous the COVID-19 is.
According to the UNICEF, like other respiratory illnesses, it can cause mild symptoms including a runny
nose, sore throat, cough, and fever. It can be more severe for some persons and can lead to pneumonia
or breathing difficulties and organ failure. More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people, and
people with pre-existing medical conditions appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with
the virus. The virus is transmitted through direct contact with respiratory droplets of an infected person
(generated through coughing and sneezing), and touching surfaces contaminated with the virus.
As of now, there is no named treatment and cure for COVID-19 but doctors and experts suggested
precautionary measures to lessen and avoid the risk of infection. Wearing a medical mask can help in
limiting the spread of some diseases including the COVID-19, it alone will not stop infection. Washing
hands and avoiding contact with potentially infected individuals is the best way to reduce the risk of
infection. Wash your hands frequently using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub. Cover your
mouth and nose with a flexed elbow or tissue, when coughing or sneezing, and throw away the tissue
into a closed bin. Avoid close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms. Lastly, go to the
physician if you have a fever, cough or feel that it is difficult to breathe so that you will be monitored.
Apparently, these things must be taken into account because being aware could greatly help the
frontliners and the government in fully getting rid the so-called COVID-19, the killer disease. Self-
discipline is very important because one's safety depends on oneself.
