El Filibusterismo was Jose Rizal's sequel to his first novel Noli Me Tangere. It depicted a society dominated by greed and corruption 15 years after the events of Noli. Rizal dedicated the novel to three priests who were unjustly executed by Spanish authorities. He wrote the novel over several years while living in the Philippines, London, and France, completing it in 1891. It was published later that year in Belgium with help from a friend funding the publication.
