The Accommodation Sector
ACCOMMODATION IS A BASIC NEED OF TOURISM ACTIVITY. WITHOUT ACCOMMONDATION IT WIIL BE
DIFFICULT TO DEVELOP TOURISM EVEN IN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES OF THE WORLD. Its
IMPORTANCE COULD BE BY IMAGINING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF ALL ACCOMMONDATION FACILITIES
DELETED FROM THE TOURIST PLACES.
TOURIST TRAVEL IMPLIES AT LEAST ONE NIGHT AWAY FROM HOME IN HOTELS, RESORTS MOTELS ETC

RESORTS
o Offer tourists & convention guests an attractive array of active and passive activities
o Located in exotic locations such as Belize, Hawaii, Bahamas, and Caribbean etc.
o Good climate & Beach of golf course
o Offer leisure time, pleasurable and business opportunities through several activities; golf,
tennis, water sports, inland tours
o All inclusive have everything and huge and pampered:
o All-inclusive resort: An all-inclusive resort charges a fixed price that includes most or all
items. At a minimum, most inclusive resorts include lodging, unlimited food, drink,
sports activities, and entertainment for the fixed price
HOTELS
o A hotel is generally the largest of all accommodation types.
o There is typically a common reception area, and rooms generally open directly onto a
hallway.
o The on-site restaurant and other facilities are more accessible to the public than the other
accommodation types.
o A wide range of guest services is available, such as room service.

o Hotels are often members of larger hotel groups, and a similar accommodation
experience may be available in different establishments within the group.
o A hotel is an establishment that provides lodging paid on a short-term basis.
o The provision of basic accommodation, in times past, consisting only of a room with a
bed, a cupboard, a small table and a washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with
modern facilities, including en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning or climate control.
o Additional common features found in hotel rooms are a telephone, an alarm clock, a
television, a safe, a mini-bar with snack foods and drinks, and facilities for making tea
and coffee.
o Luxury features include bathrobes and slippers, a pillow menu, twin-sink vanities, and
jacuzzi bathtubs.
o Larger hotels may provide additional guest facilities such as a swimming pool, fitness
center, business center, childcare, conference facilities and social function services
BED & BREAKFAST
o A Bed and Breakfast (B&B) is a private home in which guests can be accommodated at
night in private bedrooms (which may or may not have private bathrooms).
o The owner or manager lives in the house or on the property. The public areas of the
house, such as kitchen and lounge have either limited access for guests, or are shared
with the host family to some degree.
o The business may be run as a secondary occupation.
o Breakfast is included in the price (generally either continental or full-English). Other
meals may be available by arrangement.
BACKBACKER HOSTEL
o A hostel (or backpacker) establishment is aimed at the budget traveller and generally
attracts a younger clientele.
o Bedrooms are in a dormitory style (shared) and bathrooms are shared, although private
bedrooms may be available.
o Light meals may be available in addition to the room rate.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL
o A boutique hotel is a 5 star establishment providing all the features and facilities of a
normal hotel, in a unique and exclusive style.
o These properties are generally small, feature top class service and are marketed to the
affluent.
GUEST HOUSE
o A guesthouse is generally a private home which has been converted for the dedicated and
exclusive use of guest accommodation.
o The public areas of the establishment are for the exclusive use of the guests. The owner
or manager either lives off-site, or in an entirely separate area within the property.
o A Guesthouse offers a wider range of services than a B&B, and usually caters for all
meals.

LODGE
o A lodge is an accommodation facility which is located and designed to optimize the
feeling of being closely in touch with nature.
o The building style should feature natural materials and coloring such as wood, stone and
thatch.
o An outdoor experience should be offered at the lodge, such as guided walks, game drives
etc
A MOTOR HOTEL OR MOTEL FOR SHORT
o Also known as motor inn, motor court, motor lodge, tourist lodge, cottage court, auto
camps, tourist home, tourist cabins, auto cabins, cabin camps, cabin court, or auto court),
o Is a hotel designed for motorists, and usually has a parking area for motor vehicles.
CONDIMINIUM
o is the form of housing tenure and other real property where a specified part of a piece of
real estate (usually of an apartment house) is individually owned while use of and access
to common facilities in the piece such as hallways, heating system, elevators, exterior
areas is executed under legal rights associated with the individual ownership and
controlled by the association of owners that jointly represent ownership of the whole
piece
o A condominium is one of a group of housing units where each homeowner owns their
individual unit space, and all the dwelling share ownership of areas of common use.
o The individual units normally share walls, but that isn't a requirement. The main
difference in condos and regular single homes is that there is no individual ownership of
a plot of land. All the land in the condominium project is owned in common by all the
homeowners.
INNS
o They are generally establishments or buildings where travelers can seek lodging and,
usually, food and drink.
o They are typically located in the country or along a highway. There are inns in Europe,
Asia and North America.
