Group Work
Group Exercise

Aim:

The objective of this exercise is to make the participants develop an action plan
whilst planning for Decentralised Solid Waste Management, under the compliance
of SWM Rules, 2016 - with a pragmatic approach.

Day 1

 Divide into 4 groups


 Reference material will be shared to each group and it would include:
- Overview of Assigned Ward
- Facts sheet
- Ward Map
- Deliverables
 Each group will be given 45 minutes for discussion and is expected to come
up with a list of places or people that they would want to visit/interact
during their field visit to the assigned ward.

Day 2

 8:30- 10:30 – Field visit


 During the field visit, you will be given opportunity to interact with the field
team comprising of NGO activists, sweepers, RWA members, Auto tipper
drivers etc.
 Each group is expected to communicate with the field team and brainstorm
their findings during the visit.
 Make notes.

Day 3

 Over the course of the training, you will be exposed to various innovative
technologies, start-ups experiences and success stories in SWM.
 Brainstorm your ideas based on your findings, learnings and study material
provided to you.
 Make a ppt/report.
 Each group will be given 10 mins to present their Action plan, which shall be
reviewed by the panel members.
Scenario – Role Play
If you and your team were given the task of turning Ameerpet/Somajiguda ward
into a model sanitation ward (reference to SWM only), how would you plan it ?
whilst incorporating components like:
 Decentralised Resource facilities and Cost Recovery options
 Sustainability and scaling up options
 Recyclables Business options
 Waste to energy – Innovative technologies
 Resources and Infrastructure planning
 Collaborating agencies
 Policy interventions

Deliverables
 What action plan would you propose to achieve:
 A) 100% Door to Door collection
B) 100% Source Segregation
C) 100% Litter bins emptying
D) 100% Elimination of garbage vulnerable points
 How do you propose to achieve a “litter free” status for the ward? And how
would you plan to ensure its sustainability?
 How do you plan to establish an effective and sustainable model for “ a
sound sweeping management system” in Ameerpet ward?
 “C & D waste management is a menace”. Propose an effective model to
establish a sustainable C & D waste management system.
