DESIGN/SYMBOLISM OF THE PRODUCTS

T-SHIRT
Symbolisms

The design of the t-shirt comprises the sun in the Philippine flag, a quill pen, and

Rizal himself on the front side while a quill transforming into birds and the title of the first

novel of Rizal, Touch Me Not are the objects situated on the back of the shirt. This

summarizes the journey of Rizal in becoming the Philippine national hero.

1. First of all, Rizal’s face is incorporated in the design to remind the Filipinos of his

greatness and bravery for dedicating his life to the country, especially the Filipino

people of today’s society seemingly forget his contribution to the Philippine

independence.

2. Secondly, the quill pen symbolizes the means of Rizal in improving the country. It

also conveys that one of the effective ways to fight can be done peacefully and

violence is the last option to perform. This can be best exemplified by the historical

event when Rizal greatly influenced the Filipinos which resulted in a revolution.

3. Thirdly, the sun is also included in the design to embody the idea that Rizal performed

a significant role in Philippine history. Through his writings, good deeds, and

influence, the Philippine was able to build its own identity as a country that has its

own language, culture, traditions, government, and territory. Hence, the sun represents

the rise of the Philippines as an independent country.

4. Fourthly, the background color clearly signifies the colors found in the Philippine

flag. This is also the color of the objects comprising the design.

5. Lastly, at the back of the shirt, the birds embody freedom. It is located at the back to

emphasize that after all the sacrifices of the Filipinos in the history, freedom is

achieved and one thing that greatly contributed to this is the writings of Rizal that is

why there is a quill as well. On the other hand, the first novel of Rizal, Noli Me

Tangere only implies the beginning of the process of developing nationalism in the
heart of every Filipino. It was the first step of Rizal to unite them by showing them

the true condition of the country in the hands of the colonialists and their rights as

humans.

TOTE BAG
Symbolisms

1. The sun together with its wings-like shapes in its sides represents the Filipino flag that

symbolizes patriotism.

2. The black statute represents the monument of Jose Rizal. It is placed at the back to

signify that, though Rizal hugely contributed in the achievement of Philippine

independence, acknowledgement and love given for him must not exceed the love we

have for the Philippines. It is similar to what we are currently facing, it must not be

the government or its officials that we care for but our nation itself.

3. The number of likes represents the Philippine Independence Day on July 4, 1964.

4. At the account name, the Dimasalang is the penname used by Rizal in writing at La

Solidaridad. On the other hand, number 96 represents the day of his death in the year

1896.

5. The “baybayin” in the caption means “Inang Bayan”. This representation encourages

people to appreciate and not to forget the beauty of the old Philippine civilization.

6. The Instagram template represents modernization. In the right side, we can notice the

feather pen used by people before in writing. These two represents that, even today

we can express our love for the country at various ways.

LAPTOP STICKERS
Symbolisms

The following stickers were composed of different ideas that are related to Dr. Jose

Rizal and his beliefs:

1. The first one is composed of a book and a pen which are the primary tools used by

Rizal in order to fight. The color blue was used to indicate that his books are aiming

for freedom and justice. In addition, the Philippine flag on the cover indicates that his

books are dedicated for his country

2. The sticker with a sketch of Jose Rizal's face using the colors of the flag of the

Philippines—red, blue, white and yellow—symbolizes the love of Rizal for his

country.

3. One of the famous quotations from Rizal is stated on this sticker. These words are

stated on his famous novel, El Filibusterismo. A speech balloon was used to

emphasize these words and at the same time, the color red was used to show his anger

towards the corruption and the current situation of the country during that time.
4. A sticker with four “REFORM” is related to his novel, El Filibusterismo wherein it is

the main theme of the said novel. The color black and red symbolize the entire novel

—dark, unfortunate, revenge, anger, failure and death.

5. The two stickers had Jose Rizal's pen name. The “Dimasalang” was used by Rizal on

La Solidaridad which means “untouchable” like the wind. A quill pen is also included

in the sticker since it is one of the common tools used in writing. On the other hand,

“Laong Laan”, another Rizal’s pen name he used in La Solidaridad which came from

a name of a railway in Manila hence, the used of train to symbolize it.
