SWITCHING TYPE/BRAND OF CLEANING CHEMICALS

Before changing to a different type or brand of cleaning chemical (acid or detergent) it

is necessary to rinse the plumbing circuitry of the machine. Install the new chemical(s)
per the installation instructions and then prime the detergent and acid pumps. Then a
wash cycle can be programmed and run which uses several rinses with water only. This
will prevent any cross contamination of chemicals.

CHAPTER 1 BEFORE YOU START 13

CHAPTER 1 BEFORE YOU START 14

820 LX / UTILIZATION

5. THE BASKETS

SOME EXAMPLES

In order to wash items in "TE" or

"TH" type baskets, place the baskets
on the "PS" (basic rack) or "PSB"
(basic rack with spray arm) after
removing one or more "GS" (support
grilles). Check that the basket is
correctly fitted on the rods of the rack
designed for that purpose. Reinstall
the grilles for any washing operation
that does not require the use of "TE"
or "TH" type baskets.

Note : The "PS" should only be positioned at the bottom level of the washer chamber
where washing action is provided by the lower spray arm. The "PSB" can be positioned
on any level.

It is extremely important that the

items to be washed are prevented
from moving in order to obtain
correct cleaning and to avoid
breakage of fragile items. Items that
can be easily moved or knocked over
when loaded on the "PS" or "PSB"
rack should be secured in place. The
"GC" hold down screen should be
used for "PS" or "PSB" racks. The
"GCI" hold down screen should be
used for injector racks.

CHAPTER 1 BEFORE YOU START 15

820 LX / UTILIZATION

In the case of washing items with small diameter openings such as volumetric flasks, it
is very important that the flow rate of the injectors used must be lower than the flow
capacity of the flasks to be washed in order to avoid a gradual filling of the flasks during
the washing cycle. If the diameter of the opening is too small to allow the water to
escape from around the injector the mechanical action of the injector can be absorbed by
the water contained in the glassware giving poor cleaning results. It is imperative to use
baskets with injectors of proper diameter and, above all, to secure lightweight items with
a "GC" or "GCI" hold down screen.

In order to wash items on a

"PL" type basket (for cleaning
slides), place the baskets on the
"PS" (basic rack) or "PSB"
(basic rack with spray arm)
after removing one or more
"GS" (support grilles). Check
that the basket is correctly
fitted on the rods of the rack
designed for that purpose.
Reinstall the grilles for any
washing operation that does
not require the use of "PL"
type baskets.

You should only use baskets that are suitable for the parts to be washed. When your
washer is put into service, our technicians will give you useful advice on the best way to
load the racks relative to the items to be washed.

Please feel free to contact LANCER for advice or assistance.

When several racks are used simultaneously on the different levels, only one rack should
be pulled out of chamber on the door and the runners at a time.

CHAPTER 4 MAINTENANCE

This chapter gives the maintenance operations to ensure a good functioning of your washer
to have the best results.

1. THE FILTERS

2. SHUTDOWN AT END OF DAY

3. EXTERNAL MAINTENANCE OF THE WASHER

CHAPTER 4 MAINTENANCE 39
820 LX / UTILIZATION

RESIDUES OF PRODUCTS SUCH AS ACETONE, SOLVENTS,

PETROLEUM, PETROLEUM DERIVATIVES, CHROMIUM
SULPHATE, ACID (SULPHURIC, NITRIC, HYDROCHLORIC
EVEN AT A LOW CONCENTRATION), MUST NOT BE USED OR
PLACED IN THE WASHER IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

1. THE FILTERS

BASIN

Clean the basin filters after each cycle.

Reinstall them correctly in their housing at the bottom of the basin, see page 12.

STRAINER

CHECK THE CLEANLINESS OF THE

STRAINER FILTERS AND CLEAN OR
REPLACE THEM IF NECESSARY.

DRYING

In normal conditions of environment, the filter must be replaced every year.

2. SHUTDOWN AT END OF DAY

Shut off the water inlet valves so that the valves are not left under water pressure. The
valves must be opened before using the machine again.

CHAPTER 4 MAINTENANCE 41
820 LX / UTILIZATION

3. EXTERNAL MAINTENANCE OF THE WASHER

The bodywork of the LANCER washer is made of stainless steel.

CLEANING METHOD :

Weekly cleaning of the bodywork has to be done with mild cleaner.

We recommend the use of a product specifically designed for cleaning stainless steel.

The product must be applied with a soft cloth. It is very important to apply the cleaner
in the direction of the grain of the panels to avoid scratching. Drying the machine is best
performed using a squeegee or similar device to avoid the drops or spots that can be left
by a cloth.

SPRAYING THE UNIT WITH LIQUID IS PROHIBITED.

CLEANING PRODUCTS :

Detergents, soaps :

Many products are commercially available to clean stainless steel, however, they must
not contain chlorinate.

Abrasive powders :

These products may scratch stainless steel surfaces and modify the appearance. They
can, nevertheless, be useful on dirt that is difficult to remove.

Acid products :

They should only be used in very specific cases.

Acetic acid can be used to remove mineral stains.

CHAPTER 4 MAINTENANCE 42
820 LX / UTILIZATION

It is possible to find products made of phosphoric or nitric acid which are especially
made to clean stainless steel. It is very important to strictly adhere to the chemical
manufacturer's recommendations.

Chlorinated disinfectants can only be used in a very diluted formulation with cold
water, reduced contact time, and abundant rinsing.

CLEANING SHOULD BE FOLLOWED BY ABUNDANT RINSING

TO REMOVE ALL TRACES OF THE CLEANING PRODUCT
THAT WAS USED (THIS SHOULD BE DONE WITH A SQUEEGEE
AND SOFT CLOTH).

CHAPTER 4 MAINTENANCE 43
