WRITING SKILL
Remember that in TASK 1 in IELTS test, you have to write a short and clear
report.
The writing style must be formal; you have to use complete sentences in
clear paragraphs.
You have to transfer the non-verbal information (graphs-tables-charts-
diagrams-maps-plans) into a report of 150 words.
You must not take more than 20 minutes in this task. Writing tips 1
IELTS TASK 1: PRACTICAL EXERCISE 1
1. The following report, summarizes the information given in a chart, (this model answer
receives a band 9 in IELTS).
2. Read carefully the description provided and reconstruct the data of the chart.
This table shows which main hobby male and female New Zealanders prefer.
These hobbies are: Adult education, the internet, cooking, DIY, gardening,
and reading.
Overall, there is no single hobby both genders mostly enjoy, and there is only
one cooking, they like equally at ten percent. Thirty-three percent was the
highest number of those surveyed for a principal body: for men it was for the
internet, while it was for reading for women.
With regard to the other persuits: adult education for women followed reading
as the second most common at twenty-one percent: This was three time its
popularity with men. Secondly, fewer than half as many women (15%) as men
considered the internet to be their main hobby. Eleven percent of women were
interested in DIY as opposed to eighteen percent of men. Gardening had the
same percentage of female hobbyist as cooking, and it had only slightly more
