Week 3 - Omnipresent

If you are to spend a day all to yourself, where do you want to go?
Was there a time when you couldn’t find something you need the most at one
point? How did you respond?
Do you have a secret that someone found out even though you never told
him/her about it? What was your reaction?
Word
23 “Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far away? 24 Who
can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill
heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.
(Jeremiah 23:23-24)
God is always present. He keeps His eyes on us, and doesn’t miss a single moment in
our lives. Even before the day we were conceived in the womb to our very first cry,
our growing up years, our first day in school, in our failures and successes, and even
to this very moment, He is with us. He is never absent. No one can outrun Him and
His loving presence. The fact that He is always there means that every single day, He
invites us to be in His presence and to follow Him.
You can’t run.
23 “Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far away?
(Jeremiah 23:23)
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
(Psalm 139:7)
God promised that when we draw near to Him, He will draw near. (James 4:8). But
sometimes as Christians, we tend to think that God is only close by when we are so
on fire for Him, and that He’s far when we’re not okay. But God reminds us that no
matter how far we think we’ve run away from Him, He’s never beyond reach. The
moment we decide to turn around and run back to Him, we’ll realize He’s been there
all along, waiting for us to trust Him completely.
You can’t hide.
24 Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord “Do not
I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.
(Jeremiah 23:24)
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are
there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
(Psalm 139:8-10)
No one can really hide from God—no one! He knows where we are even in the
most secret place we think we can be in. He, of course, who has created the
heavens and earth, knows every corner of it. God cares so much for us that even
when we wander off and get lost, He can and will find us (Matthew 18:12). He
always asks us that instead of hiding from Him, He can be our hiding place.
You can’t escape.
27 “But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot
contain you. How much less this temple I have built!
(1 Kings 8:27)
You can’t run, you can’t hide, and you can’t escape for He is God! His presence
extends beyond what we can ever imagine. It would be foolish to think that God
can be boxed in just certain areas of our lives, even the heaven and earth
combined cannot contain Him. God cannot be contained in a section, but He
contains every section. He is present in everything and everything is in His
careful watch.
So What
Have you ever felt distant from God?
Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt like running away or
hiding from God? Why did you feel like doing such?
Do you remember a time when God gave you more than what you asked?
Share.
Now What
How do you think can you know God more? Do you have a regular time to
communicate with Him?
What are the things that cause you to run away or hide from God? Give three.
What do you plan to do with these things?
Do you believe that God always have the best in mind for you?
Prayer
Ask God in prayer to reveal Himself more to you in your personal time with
Him, through His Word and His people. Ask for the grace to be a channel of
His love to others, as well.
Ask God to reveal to you the things that make you feel distant from Him. Ask
Him for His grace to be confident that nothing can ever separate you from
Him in Christ (Romans 8:38-39).
Pray with your group for faith to believe God for the great things He has for
you (Jeremiah 29:11).
