WALKTHROUGH
4000/4050 ENGINE CONTROLLER REMOVAL
BY DENNIS KOSTERMAN
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
In any laser printer, the DC con-
troller board is a prime suspect when-
ever there is a problem, since it con-
trols all printer functions. This is espe-
cially true in printers like the 4000
and 4050, in which the DC controller
and power supplies are combined into
one assembly, the engine controller
board.
This assembly can be difficult to
remove and re-install. PARTS NOW!
routinely receives boards for repair or
exchange that have been damaged by
improper removal or installation. This
article will give step-by-step instruc- ing Tray 1 (the multi-purpose tray)

plastic rib on the body block (see hundreds of these boards here,
Plate H). When seating the board,
this notch may not line up prop-
erly with the rib (because of ten-
sion from all the cables plugged
into the board), so you may have
to work it into place. This is not
at all hard to do, but it’s impor-
tant—if the board is screwed
down without this notch properly
aligned, the plastic rib will press
on the board and crack it. This is
