Magnetic Field From Current Worksheet

This document contains 5 problems about calculating magnetic fields produced by currents in wires and solenoids. It asks the reader to determine the direction and strength of magnetic fields around single wires carrying current, between loops of wire carrying current, in the center of solenoids carrying current, and the number of turns in a solenoid given the current and resulting magnetic field.

Magnetic Field from Current Worksheet

1. Show the direction of the magnetic field to the right and left of the vertical wire shown below if
the current is moving up the wire. Determine the strength of the induced magnetic field 1.5
cm from the wire if the wire is carrying 10 A of current.

2. A wire carrying 20 A is looped back on itself with 2 mm between the wires. A) What is the
induced magnetic field half-way between the wires? B) What is the magnetic field 1 mm to
the right of the wire loop?
3. A wire carrying 30 A is looped back on itself and has a magnetic field of 0.015 T halfway
between the wires. How far apart are the wires?

4. A solenoid with a length of 6.5 cm and 200 loops is carrying 5 A of current. What is the
strength of the magnetic field at the center of the solenoid? Label the north and south pole of
the solenoid. I

5. A solenoid with a length of 8.5 cm is carrying 25 A of current and has a magnetic field of 0.02
T. How many turns does the solenoid have? Label the north and south pole of the solenoid.
