Understanding the New People's Army

The New People's Army (NPA) is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines established in 1969. It currently wages a guerrilla war across 73 of the Philippines' 81 provinces. While classified as a terrorist organization by the Philippine and some other governments, the NPA sees itself as fighting for social and economic reforms. The NPA recruits among poor and marginalized groups promising work and defending their interests. However, its tactics like assassinations have turned some public opinion against it. While peace talks have occurred, negotiations have broken down and conflict continues with no clear resolution in sight.

ACT OF TERRORISM

The New People's Army is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the
Philippines (CPP) Established on 29 March 1969, the NPA waged a guerrilla war based
on the Maoist strategy of protracted people's war. NPA is one of the main figures in the
continuing CPP-NPA-NDF rebellion in the Philippines, the longest ongoing war in the
world. The CPP claims to have formed itself in 73 out of 81 provinces in the region,
through more than 110 guerrilla fronts.

The NPA is a participant to the continuing peace talks between the People's Democratic
Government and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, as represented by
the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. With the new Rodrigo Duterte
government unilaterally declaring the end of peace talks, peace efforts have hit an
impasse. Negotiations between the GRP and the NDFP have failed over the signing of
the Substantive Agreement on Socio-Economic Reforms (CASER) and the issue of
localized peace talks between the NPA units.Currently, along with the CPP, the
Philippine government has classified the NPA as a terrorist organization. The CPP-NPA
was designated by the United States and the European Union as' international terrorist
organisations' in 2002 and 2005, respectively.

Schemes
Philippine security officers, lawmakers, prosecutors, government informers,
disgruntled insurgents who seek to leave the NPA, competing splinter parties, and
suspected criminals are mainly pursued by the NPA. It opposed any U.S. military
presence in the Philippines and threatened U.S. military interests, killing many U.S.
military forces before the 1992 U.S. base shutdown. In 1999 and late 2001, press
accounts suggested that the NPA was once again threatening US troops engaged in
joint military drills, as well as U.S. Embassy staff. The NPA assumed responsibility for
the murders of two Quezon congressmen in May 2001 and Cagayan in June 2001, as
well as several other assassinations. The NPA officially expressed its plan in January
2002 to threaten US workers if discovered in NPA operational areas.
Recruitment of youth and rural villagers are really happening inside of the country
mostly the poor are affected, most of the operations of the New People's Army of the
Philippines, while being an army, do not include combat. Before they are turned into full-
time troops, NPA applicants are expected to undergo several months of work with the
NPA. Much of this work relies on the potential of the individual recruit, but in rural villages
in NPA areas it is mainly farming and doing small jobs. The NPA welcomes women,
LGBT people, and individuals of any faith and ethnic origin into their combat ranks. For
this cause, many of their participants compose of diverse citizens who are marginalized.
For a guerrilla army, their weapons and tactics are quite common. The NPA uses
jungles, caves, and mountains to establish bases in locations that are remote and
difficult to access. The heavy rains, jungle mist, and high winds all provide a degree of
camouflage in the Philippines from the military spy drones deployed by the USA. NPA
weapons are rather different, but they usually use M16 rifles, M14 rifles, Kalashnikov
rifles. One NPA broadcast video shows an NPA commander with a Tavor rifle used by
the Israeli military.

How can we help our nation?

We should be vigilant and active in the community, voting wisely and acquiring
legit news make us knowledgeable about the country. Avoid illegal and suspicious
activities. being a normal citizen, we can promote proper knowledge in the internet,
avoiding dubious links help to acquire legitimate links because most of the things in the
internet is bait and we need to read it before sharing it online.

Conclusion
With the Philippine government and its current president, Rodrigo Duterte, the
NPA is looking for a truce, but the revolt has not been canceled and it is very difficult to
lay down weapons. In history, communist guerrillas have never been overcome by
military force alone, as most efforts to combat guerrillas often end up damaging local
citizens and thereby attracting more communist guerrillas. The only way to beat the NPA
is either from inside the NPA itself or whether the Philippines ever sees a single day
without hunger, but the NPA has remained together for almost half a century, and the
Philippines has never seen a single day without mass poverty in hundreds of years.
