1. Dictatorial leader: is characterized by
 Holds all decision making power by himself.
 Uses excessive disciplinary actions against people failing to carry out their work.
 Do not give an opportunity for people to question his decision or authority.
Unique Advantage: makes decisions quickly, encourages short-term productivity
increases, reduce the impact of mistakes.
Disadvantage: discourages innovation, reduce the long-term morale of the group,
dependent upon the skills of the leader.
Application area/situation: During state of emergency, when the people does not obey the
law.

2. Benevolent- autocratic leader: is characterized by


 They have complete control over decision-making.
 Group members are rarely trusted with decision and important tasks.
 Work tends to be highly structured and rigid.
Unique Advantage: clear line of control, good for inexperienced or unmotivated workers.
Disadvantage: leader dependence, increased work burden
Application area/situation: suit most blue-collared workers, during times of emergency or
contingencies.

3. Democratic leader: is characterized by


 Group members are encouraged to share ideas and opinions.
 Creativity is encouraged and rewarded.
Unique Advantage: receive a more diverse set of ideas, place more of an emphasis on
values and morality, encourages trust and respect throughout the team.
Disadvantage: encourages no one to take responsibility for a bad idea, ineffective during
crises, requires extra time to implement a decision.
Application area/situation: best in situations where group members are skilled and eager
to share their knowledge.

4. Laissez-Faire leader: is characterized by


 The group often makes important decision rather than the leader.
 The leader is not particularly visible or important.
Unique Advantage: freedom to make decisions, brings creativity, networking.
Disadvantage: lack of role awareness, low accountability, passivity
Application area/situation: where group members are highly skilled, motivated, and
capable of working by their own.
