INTRODUCTION
BUBBLE deck slab is a biaxial hollow core slab invented
in Denmark.
It is a method of virtually eliminating all concrete from
the middle of a floor slab which is not performing any
structural function thereby dramatically reducing
structural dead weight.
High Density Polyethylene hollow spheres replace the
in-effective concrete in the centre of the slab.
Void formers inside the flat slab eliminates at least 30%
of a slab’s dead weight.
Combination of this with a flat slab construction
approach spanning in two directions - the slab is
connected directly to in situ concrete columns without
any beams- produces a wide range of cost and
construction benefits.
WHAT IS THE PRINCIPLE BEHIND?
The area between columns of a solid slab has limited
structural effect beyond adding weight.
Replacing this area with a grid of “voids” sandwiched
between layers of reinforcing welded wire steel and an
internal lattice girder yields a slab typically 35% lighter
that performs like solid reinforced concrete.
Once the steel lattice/void “sandwich” is concreted, it
is then precast into panels of various sizes and craned
into position on shoring.
• Once concrete is poured over the balls in the panels, the
Bubble Deck system effectively becomes, and behaves like,
a monolithic two-way slab that distributes force uniformly
and continuously.

METHODOLOGY
Conventional slab: This is a slab with
specifications prepared to analyze experimentally
with normal concrete of grade M30 by adopting
conventional method of design according to IS
456:2000 & IS 10262:2009.
Bubble deck slab: The Bubble slab can be casted
as per DIN 1045 (1988) or DIN 1045 (2001) code
(German code).
Finite element analysis performed using software
like ANSYS, ABAQUS SAP, FreeCAD etc and
form numerical model and compare the results.

APPLICATIONS
Functional applicability:
Residential living, offices
Utility and industrial buildings
Apartments, villas etc.
Schools
Parking
Hospitals
Laboratories and factories.
As a consequence of the reduced load, it is possible to achieve
larger spans than a solid slab.
Cantilevers can be made 10 times the deck height.
ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES

RESULTS
The maximum deflection observed for voided slab
was 19.52 mm by numerical methods.
The maximum deflection observed for voided slab
having same specifications was 8.62 mm by using
ANSYS. Deflection is more during ANSYS
analysis because of material used, here material
used was structural steel .
As there is difference between the engineering
properties given to the specimen which gives
different results from the research paper.
CONCLUSION
Difference in engineering properties gives
inappropriate result during analysis.
There is an error observed during analysis.
Weight reduction is 50% compared to solid slab.
Concrete usage reduced up to 10.55-25% as 1Kg of
recycled plastic replaces 100 Kg of concrete, reduces
CO2 emission.
Punching shearing capacity is less so GFRP(Glass
Fiber Reinforced Polymer) stirrups with various
orientation is used as a strengthening system for
bubble deck slab.
Reducing material consumption made it possible to
make the construction time faster and overall costs
are reduced by 8-10%.
