After a long discussion with my mentor Mrs. Jaimie Phillips we were able to look over
the Paterson Annual Report for our school which serves as our schools CIP report. The Paterson
Annual Report states information about our school including our mission, guidelines, goals,
curriculum/instruction, and assessment data.
Needs Assessment
To begin, the Annual Report states that our school has not seen increased proficiency
rates for ELA year after year. While our school is constantly going the extra mile to support our
students, their test scores for reading and writing are not improving as much as we want them to.
It is said that this could be because we have many students that are missing basic skills of word
study and reading so teachers have to back track their teachings so they can fill in the gaps for
those handful of students struggling. This is then causing teachers to lose time to teach the
assigned curriculum, ultimately leading to lower proficiency rates.
Improvement Actions
Furthermore, our school feels very strong about our students and their academic
successes. Our teachers are encouraged to have small group instruction during the school day as
well as after school tutoring sessions. This shows our families that we truly do what it takes to
lead their child to success. Additionally, we provide many forms of technology with various
educational website subscriptions which aide students to be successful academically using this
different strategy. Students are also encouraged to use these websites outside of the classroom to
help them practice in the areas of need.
Shared Plan
The stakeholders and parents of the school community often make a huge impact on
guiding our students to achieve academic success (RMC Research Corporation, 2009). In
addition, our school feels are stakeholders are crucial to have a successful school. As discussed
in conversation with my mentor, we make sure our stakeholders are aware of our Annual Report
by emailing it to them each year. There are also several meetings throughout the school year at
our school that all stakeholders are invited to attend. This serves as a session where the
stakeholders can express their thoughts and ideas. During this time of being a fully remote
school, several zoom meetings are scheduled instead of in person meetings to make sure all
stakeholders are reached.
CIP and Vision/Mission Alignment
According to the Paterson Annual Report, our schools mission is "STEAM challenges
our students to not only learn the content standards, but also to apply this new knowledge of 21st
century skills and discoveries to tackle evolving real-world challenges". Our school put our
students success before anything else in order for them to achieve great things. By discussing and
collaborating with the stakeholders of our school, we can make sure we design and implement a
positive and encouraging learning environment each year.
