Evaluation of a Historical Sites: Baybay City Obelisk
Theme and Effectiveness of representation
One of historical site’s of Baybay City is the Obelisk, this effectively represents Baybay itself
because the overall structure and design symbolizes Baybay’s culture, heritage and history.
Accessibility
The obelisk is located in the middle of Plaza Veteranz, it can be seen as you go to the Church,
gym or South Elementary.
Integration into the Landscape
Although the Obelisk is tall, however, it is undeniably surrounded by plenty of plants and
entertainment structures.
Appeal
Despites of its landscape, it is indeed appealing as it stands out its unique figure that caught
many eyes. Every people who visit the Veterans Plaza has indeed picture of it.
Rating Scale (1-5 with 5 as the highest) and comments
3- The local government (or any concerned agency) should have budget for maintenance of the
Obelisk. And a security to prevent vandalism, because this is the main problem as lot of children
passing the Obelisk living a pen writing to it.
Evaluation of a Historical museum: Casa Gorordo
Entry
Casa Gorordo is a house museum, which catches an eye of everyone because of its fascinating
old and unique architectural design with combination of both Chinese and Spanish influences.
From outside to inside are wholesome vibes of the past as the museum has preserved various
collection that reflects Cebuano’s lifestyle in the past.
Reception
The house is located in the Pari-an, they offer tour guide and a slip-on socks-like as they enter
the house.
Appeal
This is a two story of house, that has plenty of century-old things can be found inside. From the
house itself is an historical site.
Message and Relevance
The message of the house museum, as a whole, is to give awareness and knowledge pertaining to
how and what our ancestor used to have particularly in the History of Cebuanos. The House
Museum itself represents the history of Cebu.
The museum is a two story, contains lot of valuable things such as antiques, artifacts that portray
Cebuano’s lifestyle in the late 1800s until pre-World War II. and they have also paintings
hanging inside the house. The ground floor on the other hand is designated as waiting area for
guest which the furniture was made of bamboo and it is where contemporary arts can be found.
These all are relevant piece of knowledge that historian can use.
Accessibility
The exhibits are quite accessible to visitors, they provide tourist guide to explain the history of
each things however visitors are not allowed to take pictures inside the house especially the
Saints. Of course, it advisable to not bring young kids because many breakable things.
Ease of Movement and Closure
The house is wide, open, second floor azotea and indeed spacious block of land. Gorordo
Mansion completes the visitor’s trip down memory lane, the house makes them imagine glorious
past (boyplakwatsa).
Upon visiting it is a must to wear a slip-on socks-like protection over their shoes so as not to
damage the floor, also the floor is squeaky. Which is provided by the museum.
Gift/Book Shop
They offer gifts and café and is housed in a separate building that is connected to the museum by
a passageway from the Azotea.

4-I think this house museum is one of the informative museums in the Philippines, one of the
well-known museums however, taking photos prohibited that is why I gave only 4 because for
me taking pictures is a modern way of preserving our memories and so as history.
