1. Explore the benefits of the project design phase in the project management cycle.
Project Design phase is an early stage of the project where the key features, structure, criteria of
a project’s success and the main deliverables are all planned out. In this phase, everything is
stipulated in the project for example, the goals, outcomes, and objectives etc. Furthermore, this
phase also describes when these goals, outcomes and objectives will be achieved. In addition, it
estimates the budget and outlines how to monitor and evaluate the progress. In short, project
design is beneficiary in that; it is the road map to all other phases in the project management
cycle. It is the one that paves ways and determines the success of the project based on the
stakeholders’ requirements.
Explain the relevant of the following analytical phases in project development:
i. Stakeholder analysis- this is an indispensable technique where stakeholders are in
position to identify and analyze their needs in regard to the project. This analytical stage
is used to identify all key stakeholders who have vested interest in the issues with which
the project is about. It also identifies the interests of all stakeholders who affect or be
affected by the project itself. Again, it points out potential issues that could disrupt the
execution of the project as well as pointing out groups that should be encouraged to
participate in different stages of the project.
ii. Problem analysis involves identifying the overriding problem and then establishing the
causes and effects related to that problem. Another key aspect of this analysis is to
identify the root causes of a problem and also finding a way to address it.
iii. Objective analysis describes a future situation that would exist if all the problems were
solved. The instrument of objective analysis calls for conversion of negatively stated
problems into positive statements or objectives. Objective analysis therefore helps
stakeholders imagine what the changed situation will be. It also identifies the means and

ends logical relationship and visualizes the means and ends relationship through an
objectives tree diagram.
