Household Battery Chargers for Automobiles
This Japanese Industrial Standard spectfies small bateery chargers,
hereinatter referred to as the "chargers", with d.c, output current not
exceeding 10 A for charging automobile batteries, hereinafter referred to
as the "batteries", from a house power supply (single phase a.c. 100 VY.
This standard also specifies chargers used as an auxiliary pover source for
starting automobile engines by utilizing the internal device of charger,
Remark: In this standard the units and numerical values in{
based on the International System of Units (SI).

8.1.3. A.C. Input Capacity Connect the test battery specified below
to the output side of @ charger, apply the rated a.c. input voltage at the
rated frequency to the input side, measure the input voltage and the input
current after 5 cin from initiation of charging current, obtain the a.c,
input capacity as the product of the input voltage and the input currene so
measured, and then examine vhether the said a.c. input capacity falls
within the specified tolerance from the rated a.c, input capacity or nct.
Im the above procedure, connect an adequate lead to pass a current
equal fo the rated d.c. output current, tf the d.c. output current after 5
min does not reach the rated d.c. output current.
Recark: Test Battery ~ Use a battery of the maximum applicable
capacity described in the instruction eanual of charger or
2 battery with a 20 h rate discharge current tvo tines of
which ts almost equal to the rated d.c. output current of
charger. Fully charge the said battery, discharge it to
one half of the capacity (20 h rate capacity) and then use
it as the test battery
8.1.4 Charging Charactertst{e of Output Connect the battery
specified in 8.1.3 to the output side of charger, apply the rated a.c,
Anput voltage at the rated frequency to the input side, measure the dic,
output current after 5 min, and examine the ratio of the current so
measured to the rated d.c. output voltage.
8.1.5 Characteristic of Output for Starter Connect an adequate
resistance Toad to the output side of charger with the exclusive switch for
Starter set to the closed position, apply the rated a.c. input voltage at
the rated frequency to the input side, measure the d.c. output current vhen
the voltage across output terminals becomes 6 V, and examine the ratio of
the current so measured to the short-time rated d.c. output current. The
d.c. output current may be obtained on a graph with equal scale spacing on
orthogonal current axis and voltage axis where the currents measured at two
d.c, curput terminal voltages slightly below and above 6 V are plotted.
