Atmosphere Layers and Global Warming Insights

The document is a practice sheet for a 7th standard geography class on the topic of the atmosphere. It contains questions and answers about the composition of the atmosphere, the different layers of the atmosphere, global warming and its impacts. It defines key terms like humidity, temperature and distinguishes between concepts like the hydrosphere, lithosphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and atmosphere. It also has short notes on topics like global warming, the composition of the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect and the ozone layer. As homework, students are asked to draw and label a diagram of the structure of the atmosphere.

VI. Write a short note on the following:
a) Global Warming: Greenhouse effect of the atmosphere and destruction of the ozone
layer have led to the phenomenon called global warming, which means an increase
in the average temperatures on Earth.
b) Composition of the Atmosphere: The atmosphere consists of mixture of gases. The
main constituent gases are nitrogen (about 78%) and oxygen (about 21%), the remaining
1% made up of gases such as carbon dioxide, argon, hydrogen , helium and ozone.
c) Greenhouse effect: The increase in atmosphereric temperature due to the
concentartion of the greenhouse gases is known as the greehouse effect.
d) Ozone Layer: The statosphere contains ozone which absorbs the harmful ultraviolet
radiation of the Sun.
